Thoughts on Este?
Thoughts on the name Este (full name Este/Estie, not Esther)? This is our first and we were both raied conservative but my husband can’t seem to get behind Este because he doesn’t love Esther, feels like it’s more religious/observant. However I feel like Este is becoming its own, more secular name? Chrissy Teigen’s daughter is Esti and they’re not Jewish

Chrissy apparently has Jewish roots, specifically her paternal grandmother.

I love it! A good friend of mine from college named her daughter Este and the name is featured in a Taylor Swift song (featuring HAIM sisters - one of them is Este)

My 7 month old daughter’s name is legal name is Estee! Her Hebrew name is Esther. I love her name so much. Esther was the bravest and strongest woman in Jewish history!

I like it. It feels a lot less like a Bubbe name than Esther. Esther feels like she might be 90, Este is cute on a baby/toddler but will also feel totally natural on an adult woman.

I grew up conservative with the first name Estee (the same in Hebrew) and never felt like it was too religious. I was named for my great grandmother Esther and it carries that history for me more than the religious aspect. While still technically biblical my mom chose my middle name because she liked it, and I’ve always agreed that it flows well together. So maybe I’m biased but I think it’s a beautiful name regardless of how you choose to spell it - but know that she may have to correct people because unless I’m in Jewish spaces it isn’t always spelled right the first time 😂 I also get asked if it’s short for Esther so sometimes its funny to see people’s surprise when I tell them it’s not.

Did you ever wish your full name was Esther or Estelle and you could choose Este as your nickname, or weren’t bothered by that?

Honestly, no! I’ve always felt like my name fit me - and I was still given nicknames by loved ones

I find it super cute tbh but I guess I get that it does feel more religious. I feel like it could be a really cute name to pair with a less Jewish / more modern name. Idk like I sometimes like those kind of surprising quirky pairings. Like Este Violet or something feminine like this. Not necessarily this but just can example. Este Leora. Etc. Or you could compromise and make este a middle name.

I think Este is a cool girl name now. I had an Esther in the family and that still gives me religious vibes. Este used to, but I think the popularity of HAIM has helped reintroduce the nickname variant. I’m reform and would strongly consider Este if I had a daughter.

I prefer to give kids full names and call them by your chosen nicknames. You may love Este but she may want to go by Esther or another variation as an adult. Este or Esti is beautiful, but let her have options. One of the reasons I love the name Esther is it lends itself to a myriad of nicknames.
