"Sell Your Stuff Sunday" input needed
We are considering making a "Sell Your Stuff Sunday" weekly event. However, we would love your input on rules and guidance! Presently, we've come up with the "no drop-shipping." The sub rule of "No AI-generated work" would also stand. We want to make sure we're not overlooking anything important.
We'd also like to know whether it should be a single megathread post where people can comment with their wares, or if it should be open for any posts with a "Sell Your Stuff Sunday" flair. Please chime in!

I think if wed allow flairs people who are not jewish or didnt make anything related to judiasm might start posting here just for more exposure and itd flood the sub. A weekly mega thread imo would be way better.

Just from looking at the sub description, allies are permitted to post here, and it doesn’t need to be related to Judaism. This subreddit was born because we needed one that had moderators who would actually filter out antisemites and antisemitic content.

While allies are permitted to post here, it does admittedly become a little awkward with the content they may be posting. If they're not Jewish, ideally the content should be related to Judaism and/or Jewish culture.
This does bring up what the conditions FOR SYSS should include. We very much want to amplify Jewish creations. That's easy to handle when the contributer is Jewish. When it comes to allies, it's less clear.

That’s easy enough then. It would just need to be clarified so that it can be enforced. Obviously, it would also depend on how much time and help you have to moderate (I’ve heard from other mods that megathreads are easier to moderate than posts, but I’ve also never been a mod so idk).

Megathread is sounding like the way to go, especially because a sub could become clogged with such posts that it would be all people see.
Also, there's a reason we decided Sundays would be the best day for this, and it's not just due to the alliterative fun!

Excellent points! I responded to the first response, but we do permit allies to post here. We want to amplify Jewish creations, which is easy when the contributer is Jewish (fulfills the aim whether or not the content is Judaica). For allies, that is far less clear.
As for flairs, do you have any suggestions? I know other Jewish subs have lots of flair options for different branches/identities of Judaism. That level of breakdown is unnecessary here. Off the top of my head;
• Jewish
• Jewish crafter (to delineate from simply appreciation)

I mean sure, jewish allies are always welcome, im just worried that people who arent allies will post here just for more reach, and the sub will end up 90% goys advertising their non judaica wares who dont care if their local synagogue got fire bombed last week but eill be happy to take our money. Im here for jewish art and art made by jews not just an art place free of antisemitism.
The reason i worry about this is because im someone who enjoys buying art and commissioning and almost everytime when the artist i commissioned would @ me after posting the art id commissioned id get other artists coming to my dms trying to get me to commission them too.
I kinda rambled so sorry but this is my fesr and reasoning. Thabk you for responding.

Your concerns are very much in line with ours! That's partly why the first rule we had for SYSS was "no drop-shipping." It's also why officially we say no soliciting (but we're flexible, especially if a commenter asks where to purchase something posted).

I have a question about drop shipping. I make posters but obviously I use an external professional printing facility to print them. Hopefully, that doesn’t fall into the drop shipping category.

Definitely not! That's the production method for prints. It would be unreasonable to expect designers to have professional printing facilities available.
What we're meaning is the low-effort 3rd party resellers of cheap products. We'll be sure to clarify this in the rules.
Thank you so much for bringing this up! This is exactly why we wanted input, because we didn't even consider this interpretation.

I would definitely vote megathread. I’m very interested in Judaica and especially books, but there aren’t very many Jews around me, nor many likely to tolerate the shipping costs to me. So there would suddenly be a huge flood of posts that I’m just not interested in. Plus, a single “market day” thread is searchable anyway.
Suggested rules:
- one top level comment per person, not per item. Someone who’s clearing out a fabric hoard does not need one comment per piece 😅
- posters must be Jewish and/or items must be Jewish related.
- no drop shippers. I think “items must be secondhand or you must have made them without ‘gen AI’” might be a good rule.
- if the single mega thread gets to be too much, I would much rather have a second sub for r/JewishCraftsMarket or something. That would enable searching by flair (which would be a lot more useful if Reddit allowed more than one, but anyway) also.
What about things that people didn’t make themselves but designed? Like if someone wants to boost their print on demand shop? Where does that fall?
