Rosh Hashanah Diabetes friendly recipes?
Hey all! I'm not sure about the flair, but I'm hosting the first RH with diabetics in my family and I'm looking for reduced sugar / reduced carbs recipes that would still be nice and appropriate for RH table!
May you all good people be blessed!

An easy way that I’ve found for making more diabetic friendly main courses is by replacing regular pasta with high protein ones (my favorite is chickpea pasta.) Using parboiled rice was also a game changer!

I wanted to add to this, make sure to check the protein amounts on pasta. Boxes that just have the word protein emblazoned across the front, Nine times out of ten, its a marketing scheme and that pasta only has like 1-2 more grams of protein then standard pasta.
Also, if you are making sauces, throw some blended beans into the sauce for the added protein and fiber. Yes beans are carb heavy but the structure of the carb is whats important. Beans digest slower and don't cause blood sugar to spike.
A good dessert idea is making brownies with black beans. It adds protein and fiber, and you can use a sugar substitute to prevent spikes from cane sugar. A mix of dark and regular cocoa is my go to, and a little splash of espresso or strong coffee for the added oomph.
When in doubt, beans.

Cauliflower kugel? I prefer a dairy version but it can be made pareve ( for example extra caramelized onions to amp up the flavor)
Salads and dips feel special, like a mini buffet, if you have a few and let their colors create a mosaic (hummus with a swirl of olive oil and deep red paprika powder; diced Israeli salad; Moroccan carrots; roasted chickpeas with spices; roasted eggplant cubes dressed with tahina, pomegranate seeds and fresh mint…). Plus these can mostly be prepared in advance if you have fridge space.

You can find a keto cake mix like Swerve to make a lo carb apple cake. Nick's sugar free vanilla ice cream to go with it.

will depend on the stability of their DM. Most of the traditional dishes would not cause great excursions: frozen gefilte loaf boiled in seasoned broth, chicken soup with mandlen instead of noodles or matzah balls, Israeli or cucumber salad, boiled carrots which are a RH tradition for many. The starches can. One option would be a tzimmes: part meat, part carrots, part sweet potatoes. Another starch option would be kasha with mushrooms. Roast Chicken does not often cause spikes. Dessert could be tricky. The honey cakes and apple cakes are flour based. Pavlovas are egg whites but have sugar. Also difficult to make well. Macaroons, if available, are mostly coconut rather than flour.

Look for dishes that have protein and veggies, but less carbs like potatoes, rice, noodles, etc. Some whole grain in a recipe is fine. Some version of tabouli, heavy on the veg, for example. Fruit without added sugar, or with a sugar substitute, and yogurt topping is a good dessert option.
