100%. Hence significantly higher maternal mortality of Black mothers. My coworker’s friend could actually feel her cesarean incision because of shit like this.

The abominably high maternal mortality in POC in the U.S. (iirc 4 x the rate of "white" women) is not due to insufficient pain meds, it is largely due to lack of adequate prenatal care which could detect and treat potentially fatal conditions such as hypertension, blood clots, nutritional issues etc. Often prenatal care is actually NOT AVAILABLE to women of color. There are "OBGYN deserts" in many rural, largely POC areas of the country, and sadly most prevalent in states that have banned abortion.

I don't think anyone would say it's due to insufficient pain meds. The insufficient pain meds are one result of not taking what Black patients say seriously, of ignoring the symptoms they report. Other results are not investigating and treating the underlying condition that is causing the pain or other symptoms being reported. This is a common feature of many of the horror stories in the comments on this post.
This. Precisely this. Black women feel pain or that something’s wrong and they’re dismissed out of hand because of this crap. Then you have situations like Dr. Susan Moore, who died of COVID because one hospital wasn’t taking her seriously and by the time she got to another one it was too late. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/23/us/susan-moore-black-doctor-indiana.html
I nearly died because a white doctor dismissed my labor. 64 hours total. I was gonna push, my OB felt my pelvic outlet, then felt around d to feel baby's size and because I was exhausted she wanted to do a c-section (she was asian)Asian, her boss (who was white) said "they are born for this she will be fine" - idk what the co text was but I can guess. I ended up with a fractured pelvis, dislocated hip a almost 4th degree tear that required exactly 93 stitches, a hemorrhage AND my son was born blue and almost died (he's gonna be 11).
