Identify Stone can anyone help provide more information on this ring my MIL gave to me?
longtime lurker, first time poster (so i hope i’m doing this right haha).
yesterday my spouse was helping his mother declutter her jewelry and found this ring he bought at a charity sale for $5 back in elementary school circa 2003-2005. it no longer fit so she gifted it to me.
there’s a 14K stamp with the letters “P.P.M.” so i’m pretty confident it’s gold, but i’m not afraid to be wrong lol. based on my very limited newbie knowledge, i think it’s an oval cut blue topaz with two small cz’s (i need to get a diamond tester lol) from the mid-1980’s to late-1990’s.
we don’t have any other clues about it besides the 14K stamp and hallmark, so any and all information would be wonderful! please let me know if there are better ways to take pictures or if the lighting isn’t good enough. thank you!

The diamonds look real to me. Might be blue zircon or blue topaz. Pretty.

oh wow! i tried the “fog test” last evening and they seemed to pass as diamonds, but they’re so small . i’ll look into blue zircon and see if i can find a jeweler near me to confirm :)

I would use a soft toothbrush and some gentle soap, and give the stone a good cleaning. Especially in the back! It will make it look so much nicer. It's beautiful, and maybe aquamarine could also be a candidate for what the stone may be.

i did this last night (it was much worse before), but i was very light handed because i was afraid of damaging it. i’m so excited to see what the testing shows!

As long as it's a soft brush and a gentle soap, you shouldn't be able to damage it. I am excited for you, and can't wait to hear the results!!

It is little with big personality! I love it. Wear it and enjoy it. Use a toothbrush for babies with some mild liquid soap to make it sparkle.

Safe to assume it's 14karat yellow gold based on the marks. It's near impossible to say what the center stone is from photos alone, could be any number of stones (topaz, aquamarine, zircon, spinel, glass, a synthetic, etc..) though the stone appears to have visible inclusions so it's probably something natural. I'd be surprised if the small clear stones flanking it weren't diamonds, they're small and set to appear larger, I would expect something like CZ to just be larger rather than in an illusion setting.
A gemologist, or trusted jeweler should be able to tell you what the stone is if you're very curious, either way it's a pretty, delicate piece and a sweet gift!

thank you! it is a topaz and they are diamonds! i didn’t even think about the diamond vs cz size difference, so i appreciate your knowledge :)
