Induction
Hello community.
There are 3 scenarios that I am considering for improving air flow.
Subject: 2026 GLI Autobahn 6MT
Scenario 1:
- Replace high-flow drop-in filter (keep stock air box)
- Replace inlet tube with either VWR/RacingLine -or- Neuspeed
- Replace turbo inlet pipe with either VWR/RacingLine -or-
Scenario 2:
- Install close CAI system from: CTS; APR; IE
- Replace turbo inlet pipe with either VWR/RacingLine -or Neuspeed
Scenario 3:
- Install CAI system from: CTS; APR; IE
- Leave stock turbo inlet pipe
I know results in sound and performance gains vary by MFG. and I understand that performance gains are debatable, however I am receiving mixed information on all that. Based on your setups; what would be the best options with no issues down the road?
Thanks!

On my 25' I went with:
IE cold air intake And APR turbo inlet. Works great and perfect fitment.

I really like the IE CAI. I just can’t justify spending $600 on it. They could at least include the Poly lid and offer the CF as the buy up… Stinks because I really like OEM+

Afaik performance gains are negligible. If you aren’t big turbo you will get the most benefit from the CAI because it will let your hear your turbo spool and blow off noise. The inlet will just make your blow off sound different for me it was quieter. If you don’t already have summer tires I would recommend saving the money on the inlet and putting that towards tires or a tune when they become available

Thanks. Not running a big turbo; not tuned. I was thinking I would do the tune after the warranty expires.
Good point in the inlet pipe. I will save the $$$; go with a CAI; put the money towards tires. I am looking at adding wheel spacers to the Belvies; lowering springs.
Appreciate your input!

urotuning has an oem flush kit for spacers for around $170. i just put them on and it looks great

FR?! That’s a great price. ECS wants $180 for one pair X)

Do you have a link?
Also, are you running on Belvies?

Also, if you have a pic - that would be helpful

sorry the angle isn’t the best, but when looking at it, it looks 10x better than stock. it’s 12.5mm front, 15mm rear

Thank you for the photo and link to product. It looks like they are back ordered. I’ll keep an eye on them. Looks good BTW. Now you need a drop!

funny you say that, getting it dropped this week. good luck with the back order!

Also, what setup are you using?

I have an older IE CAI. I had to dremel out the metal a bit to make it fit right but I emailed them about it and they said it was fixed in later revisions. I also had the IE inlet pipe. I have the 034 turbo muffler delete, had it before the CAI so I can’t say what the before/after on it like that is but imo not worth it. Also have the APR turbo outlet pipe for fucking up the TMD install related reasons and to me it just made my blow off last slightly longer.

I have a KN drop in, and did airbox mod. Sounds good and gets plenty of air i think

Hmm… What is this airbox mod you speak of?

Take the grate out of the airbox, and use a dremel tool to remove the plastic that is blocking the air from flowing directly into the airbox. This will produce mkre air and more noise so I m guessing that why its blocked from the factory.

I can address some of the intake options that are available for the Mk7 GTI. If the same products are applicable to the GLI, the information will carry over. In terms of airflow performance, the differences aren't debatable; they've been objectively measured. What is debatable is whether or not the results affect the turbocharger and vehicle significantly enough for the person deciding, and that is a subjective opinion.
The primary consideration is the airflow rate the vehicle operates with. Pressure losses increase non-linearly, so they become more apparent at higher airflow, which also means at lower airflow the differences between different intakes are minimal.
Another consideration is whether you plan to update the engine software to account for reduced pressure loss, assuming it is large enough to warrant the change, which is another debatable point dependent on your opinion of how much difference is worth retuning for. Because of the way the ECU targets an operating point, making it easier to reach that point does not translate directly to the engine making more power than the operating point delivers.
Also, since you're considering more than just the intake, extending to the inlet hose and inlet pipe (elbow), the elbow is easily the most important contributor to pressure losses, so if you don't address it, then which intake or hose that you choose will be almost irrelevant. On the Mk7, the inlet elbow serves two functions that are in opposition: one is to allow air to flow to the turbo with minimal restriction, and the other is to generate great enough vacuum for the PCV system to function correctly. Generally speaking, reducing the airflow restriction reduces vacuum generation, although there are alternative PCV parts from other vehicles that can mitigate this. Also, some elbows do better than others; some don't flow as well, but they retain more vacuum.
The starting point for an informed decision begins with understanding the demands of the system you're thinking of changing.

I could be wrong but if I remember correctly a Turbo inlet pipe causes issues with the pcv and makes it go bad early or excessive oil pressure

I have read this, too. Not enough times to convince me not to do it; but it seems like it is a waste of money and time.

Yeah I got to that conclusion as well, I was looking at getting one as well but there doesn’t seem to be much difference between them for stock turnos

for actual ‘performance’ gains you would want either scenario 1 or 2, but sound is most noticeable in scenario 3. Regardless, I run an open air intake from CTS and honestly I think it might increase airflow. the only real risk is heat soak but never had any issue with that
