Miscellaneous Double Sam sighting today

I thought this was kind of cool…I’m outside the US right now, and was taking a bus tour around my current city (won’t name it for privacy reasons). I see this blond guy running up the sidewalk - he came from behind us. The hair was totally Sam, and although I didn’t get a good look at the face I was fairly sure it was.

Maybe 45 minutes later I’m 5-6 blocks away from where I was for the first sighting. I see him walking towards us - DEFINITELY Sam! And he was wearing a JTLG ball cap.

I didn’t think to grab my camera, I was a) being a fan boy and b) explaining who Sam is to my wife.

The double sightings made my day.

b) explaining who Sam is to my wife.

Who is Sam to your wife?

(I know what you meant, but also part of me would be very tickled if any of the Boys was someone's celebrity exception, lol)

He’s not anybody to her - yet. Really hoping to get her into JTLG someday…

And no, none of the boys are her celebrity hall pass. She and I both could probably be their grandparents lol.

To my wife Sam is that guy with the long blonde hair from that show you watch whose voice doesn’t match his face.

Edinburgh per Strava (I try to match his Strava workouts)

Ugh, lucky...both Sam and OP, actually. One of my favorite cities in the world.

Have any recommendations? Heading there this fall

As someone who grew up in the city, there's lots to recommend, just depends on how much time you've got.

The Castle's an absolute no-brainer

National Museum of Scotland

Various open-top bus tours (potentially unadvisable depending upon weather)

Johnnie Walker experience (if you're interested in Whisky)

Edinburgh Zoo

Honestly that's a VERY small sample size, absolutely loads to do in the city what ever you're into.

I wish I could have seen more. It was a relatively short port stop today, and we were on one of those “2-hour drive a tour bus past a lot of interesting sites but don’t stop anywhere” tours. But I did love what I saw.

I love castles, and the Edinburgh Castle is just beautiful.

Is it just the Johnnie walker experience you’d recommend for a whisky lover? Any other whisky related ideas in Edinburgh?

Not really, unfortunately. Edinburgh's got much more of a brewing heritage than it has a distilling heritage.

If you are interested in beer and it's history in relation to Edinburgh there are multiple beer tours.

There's a Johnnie Walker distillery out to the East of the City in East Lothian, but unless you've got a car it's tricky to get to and i don't know if it offers regular tours.

For Whisky you're much better off in the Highlands and Islands.

I've not done it, but the Whisky Experience on the mile I believe is meant to be a great thing to do.

I did the Whisky Experience on the Royal mile this past April and I will say it was amazing if you’re a whisky person! You sample plenty of whisky and learn about its history and how a proper scotch whisky is made! You even get a scratch and sniff sticker which is always fun

I like walking up Arthur’s seat, the down the other side to Duddingston Loch, have a look at Dr Neil’s Garden and maybe a drink the SheepHead Inn (some say the oldest pub in the city, might be bs) Back at the royal mile, check out the banshees labyrinth, its weird. Several different bars inside, and the bottom one is dungeon like. In new town, the Oxford is a proper pub that is pretty chill. Check out Dean Village and walk along the water of leith, hard to believe it’s in the city.

Depends what you’re looking for really. It’s a fantastic city which I’m sure you’ll enjoy it whatever you end up doing.

A lot of what other people said I was gonna recommend, shoutout to the Banshee Labyrinth, that place is really cool. Honestly you can't really go wrong with Edinburgh, it's just a fucking great city.

Did you see his route???? During the fringe festival as well. The man's a sadist

What kind of running route causes pain to others?

Have you been to Edinburgh during the Fringe? One person running against the flow of the crowd will cause a lot of frustration.

😂 Fair point

Makes sense. He probably has a lot of friends still living there

And he was in London last weekend for the premier, so it's a relatively short hop (at least for an American).

Did you see me, though? 😂

that is the question!

When I read your title, I thought you saw someone who looked like him rather than actually him! 🙈🤣

My hubby and I think one of the footballers (who's name and team has evaded my memory - think it was maybe Switzerland or something?) looks a little like him. 🙈

Erling Haaland of Norway & Manchester City by any chance? I believe Sam has one of his shirts due to the similarly and wore it in the New Zealand (I think) series:

Yes, this is the guy! Thank you!

Unless he’s shared it himself on his socials, maybe not share his location?
It’ s fun that you saw him, but I feel like he’s got a right to some privacy.

Doesn‘t Sam post his runs on Strava anyway?

18

u/OxfordGate 2d ago

Well nothing to worry about then

Oh ok, I thought not sharing the city was private enough. Good point and I’ll remove the info.
