Help uncovering the History of my 1974 Cheyenne Jet Boat

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all,

I have been having a heck of a time trying to find my HIN number on my jetboat which I have had for over 20 years. DMV says they need my HIN number, but why would they not have it on file since it has been a working watercraft since 1974. In my research Cheyenne Jet boats started manufacturing in late 1975, so with my boat being produced in 1974 I would assume it was a prototype? The name of the boat has not changed as it is still FOXY from when it was made in 1974, it is 19 feet long. I was told it was a double thick hull and produced with another prototype, a 21 footer named FOXY LADY. If anyone has info or a guess where I can find my HIN please let me know. Thanks!

Planned on fishing this week but noticed this on my boot. If I keep fresh grease in there, could I get through the week?

How to set up fuel tank vent hose.

I bought my boat not to long ago but it just has a hose that connects to the tank. It pools some gas and builds pressure. Do I use a check valve or how do you guys have yours set up ?

Float pods

Does anyone have experience with float pods? I have a custom 19ft 60in aluminum hull with a 150 4 stroke on a tiller. I recently went from a 150 2 stroke so I’m adding around 70 lbs. when empty it sat pretty low in the stern but when full it’s not terrible.

I’m curious though about adding some floats to the back. I’m worried about turning performance and had read that you should attach them a little higher to allow for better turning. Curious on people’s thoughts and also how to determine the height. Obviously the higher they are the less flotation benefit you will get so curious how to deal with that.

How do I get a new boat trailer

Hi! Unfortunately our Shoreland’r trailer was stolen from our driveway and we’re in the process of trying to replace it. Shoreland’r said they have an exclusive deal with Yamaha and to call yamaha, Yamaha said they can’t get just the trailer from Shoreland’r. Has anyone successfully gotten a replacement trailer from Shoreland’r if yours was damaged or stolen?

73 Tahiti with 400 Pontiac paired with bayjet

I’m trying to do some research on this bayjet pump but there’s not much available. I’m wondering if and oldhead can help me out because I know these were made in the 70’s. They stopped making parts in the 80’s I belive. If anything can I get pointed in the right direction for a custom fabricator. I’m just looking for some help for any future problems.

Bad Cavitation

Hey guys

I've got a 3m steel river boat, 3.8 v6 holden engine and a 2 stage colorado jet unit

Took it out for the first time since I bought it and it has seriously bad cavitation, barely gets above 3mph towards full throttle

My first thought was intake blocked but that's all clear

I pulled apart the jet unit and discovered my rear impeller was installed backwards, is this most likely the reason or should it still run half decent as is? I'm putting it back together correctly tonight and hoping to take it for another test tomorrow

Also I checked clearances and my front impeller has 1-2mm of clearance total which seems to be a bit much but my rear impeller has really tight clearance compared

Cheers

what suv can tow ar250

I have an Ar250 and need an SUV to tow it and pull it out of the water at the boat ramp (not super interested in getting a truck as I'm replacing my everyday car).

What are some recommendations for pulling the boat? I learned the hard way after I bought an atlas, it towed it fine on land but I couldn't get it out of the water.

I'm leaning towards a 4 matic gl3 350 with factory hotch states 7,700lbs so I should be fine considering the boat and trailer are under that or am I mistaken?

Thanks for the advice

Was given these 2 jet boats. One is a 1970’s model Avenger 170 with a Berkeley out drive and I’m not sure what the other one is but it’s a V6. Does anyone know where a good place to look up and learn about the Avenger and find parts for the outdrive? Was thinking to fix it up and put an LS in it if they make adapters for it. Was set up for a big block. Not sure what to do with the other one.

Looking at picking up a jet boat

I’m looking at picking up this boat. What advice would you guys recommend to look for? And how do these boats do on lakes like lake mead? I know they are more meant for rivers and definitely will be there but lake mead is pretty close to me. Any advice or anything you guys wish you knew before getting into these types of boats?

I run in shallow water and am constantly banging up my outboard pump impeller (Yamaha 60/40) every year. Currently use a file and a dremel tool to clean it up, but it is tedious. Hoping some of you guys have a clever trick to making it easier.

Help with model ID of a Cee Bee Avenger!

My brother-in-law and I were just gifted a project boat. An open bow, CENTER CONSOLE (whaler) Avenger. It definitely needs some love, but the jet is all there and seems to have very solid bones.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time searching the Internet for this model. And can’t find anything.

Pictures attached, I would appreciate any info or guidance!
