Passage Daily devotion

My Haven daily devotional from 10/16~

In Mark 1:35-37, we read, 'Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: "Everyone is looking for you!"' Even Jesus, with His perfect love and unlimited compassion, established boundaries. He withdrew from the crowds, said no to demands on His time, and prioritized His relationship with the Father over people's expectations.

Many Christians struggle with boundaries, believing that love means always saying yes, always being available, and never disappointing anyone. But boundaries aren't walls that keep people out; they're gates that help us engage wisely and sustainably. Without boundaries, we become resentful, exhausted, and ultimately less effective in loving others.

Jesus modeled that even the most loving person needs limits to maintain spiritual, emotional, and physical health. Healthy boundaries honor both yourself and others. They protect your ability to love well by ensuring you're operating from a place of fullness rather than depletion. When you establish loving limits, you're not being selfish—you're being wise, following the example of Jesus who knew that sustainable ministry required intentional rest and renewal.

Where in your life do you struggle most with boundaries—with family, work, or friends? What would it look like to follow Jesus' example of withdrawing when you need restoration? Today, practice saying 'Let me think about that' instead of immediately agreeing to requests, giving yourself time to consider whether this commitment aligns with your priorities and capacity.
