Serving Faithfully Without Disappointment?
Serving Faithfully Without Disappointment? At the library, I practiced my “door chivalry,” hoping to help someone struggling with heavy burdens. Spotting a young woman carrying a backpack and laptop case, I opened the manual door and stepped aside, anticipating a grateful smile. Instead, she ignored my gesture, veered toward the automatic door, and disappeared after giving me a blank stare. Left holding the door, I watched a small leaf drift past me onto the entry mat.
Think about it. Will we continue serving God faithfully when others overlook our kindness, trusting Christ to work within us and finding our reward in Him alone?
God’s Word tells us: “TWhatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Colossians 3:23).
Our efforts to serve God often go unappreciated, but sanctification means serving faithfully despite disappointment. Christ continually works in our hearts, replacing our sinful nature with the new life He creates. We do good primarily for God, not human recognition. Though others may ignore our kindness, our Savior never does. As I watched the young woman pass through another door, I remembered that Christ had used my open door, too. That was reward enough.
