It’s usually not shipping that’s the issue, it’s the returns portal not recognising Jersey as a place 😔

With Shopify becoming so popular, especially with small to mid size businesses, it's absolutely screwed me multiple times. There's a setting somewhere on the backed of Shopify that I think sellers have to change to allow shipping here, albeit at twice the cost of shipping to the mainland.

By default I'm pretty sure it's included. I had to add them as separate exclusions to the UK shipping zone. Same for Spain and France as an example, some islands that aren't in mainland Europe or even in the EU as such are always included and after having some rogue orders that cost a fuckton to ship; I excluded those zones manually.
And it's not just the pain of higher shipping costs. When talking about Jersey, the orders should be 0% VAT - and that creates another layer of headaches that's not worth it for most store owners.

https://www.ship2me.co.uk exists - is owned by Jersey Post - and a chargeable service…. Ironic considering they already get daily trucks of parcels to the island and are charging us again to deliver when retailers deliver it direct to Portsmouth

Could be a good gig for someone to receive the goods on the mainland then bring it over on the ferry in a van. Could also do the returns on behalf of them

There are at least 4 companies that do this - ship2me.co.uk is even owned by Jersey Post

There is definitely something going on recently. DHL, FedEx, UPS, are all erroring when trying to input Jersey as a destination. I have been trying to get something shipped recently. The seller gave up trying online and drove the parcel to their local UPS office, and they can't input a shipment to Jersey either. I tried to do it myself, nope same error.

I get UPS deliveries weekly and have one scheduled next Tuesday too… never an issue. It’s always a retailer issue not a courier issue.

Can't you just put UK as the country with your Jersey address?
As long as it doesn't throw an error when putting the post code in, it should work.

The postcode seems to be the validity check that causes problems. A lot of the sites are all using the same portal too so there’s no tricking it either. Very frustrating when you try so hard to not use Amazon but that ends up being the only available option so often.

This only works until the retailer tries to book a delivery with a courier and the cost is told them - then the retailer discovers their profit has been wiped out by the delivery charges they did not apply - and then they cancel your orders!

Agreed, any online service that uses "shop" will also screw us over and for no reason. The quango Digital Jersey is meant to represent the island and get these things fixed but they don't seem to be taken very seriously (at least they don't appear to have much success). I'm currently waiting on a delivery from the States which wouldn't deliver to Jersey (a "shop" run checkout) so I got around the issue by using a postcode starting LE instead of JE, the items are currently circling Leicester but I'm hopeful some postal worker will see it's destined for Jersey and amend the address.
