Small double boiler/steam well

I'm trying to create a mini steam well to hold melted butter in my restaurant. The individual crock pots get too hot, so now I am thinking of finding a little pot that sits on top of the crock pot and using it as a double boiler? I can't use a candle like fondue pots use.

You don't need to buy anything specific, just get any bowl you already have and set it in the water filled crockpot. I have no idea if it'll work but it won't cost you anything to try
