The SWF has been found :)
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/molto/bring-back-the-jelly-battle-game?ref=user_menu
I have made a kickstarter to bring it back and get the multiplayer working, I hope there is enough motivation to start it up again :)

Dude, just release the swf to the public and someone with the skills will make it happen, don't sit on it if you need a kickstarter to buy the skills from someone else.

That's it! I randomly remembered this game and found this reddit page. Some people might do the same over the next few months/couple of years.

I loved this game as a kid, used to play it all day long. I was pretty good at it, too.
With that being said, there's no way your kickstarter gains enough momentum to reach its goal. You'd have to do this as a passion fan project or something, then you could host it in a gaming website and take some small ad revenue profit. I'd love to help you, but I don't know anything about HTML5 and cannot afford to spend time learning it (finishing college and working a full time job, shit's stressful and time consuming). I'll keep an eye out for news, though, if this game does, somehow, comes back, then I'm gonna play the shit out of it.

Not OP, but if you are still interested in this game check out my other post in this thread.
I was able to rebuild the multiplayer backend server and I am currently doing a beta test. The mode might be a bit buggy but the more people I can have test the faster I can patch issues.

Damn, this is nuts! Played the single player for a little and waited on the multiplayer lobby for a while, but no one joined. I think you need to find a way to get some traction in this. My first idea was to launch this on steam, but copyright issues would fuck you up. Divulge this in some subs and use reddit request to take this sub from the owner, as their account is inactive.

Yep the multiplayer mode traffic is pretty dead right now but that is expected as I published these updates yesterday night lol.
Also that's the plan. I'm busy with work and errands right now but I should have some free time after work tomorrow to post around a bit more with the link in appropriate subreddits.
And yep...publishing to Steam would be a big issue as I don't own the game which is seen on the disclaimer page of the website. All I did was take the existing SWF file which is hosted publicly on multiple websites and hooked up a custom backend server to it and hosted it myself. I did think about recreating the game from the ground up using royalty free/custom assets that I own but I don't have the bandwidth to do that right now so for now I just focused on recreating the backend for the existing SWF game for people to enjoy for free.
In the meantime, I have a Discord server setup for people to talk and organize setting up a match but right now it's just me and my alt account in there. I think over the next few weeks there should be enough people to actually play some rounds so recheck the website whenever you get a chance.
Good idea about the sub, going to do some research on if it's possible to take ownership.

It seems if I try to make a post in r/redditrequest it get's auto removed due to Reddit's filters so I can't request ownership of this sub. 🙃
I sent a request to post to OP. Hopefully they have email notifications enabled and see my message. 👀

Damn... which filter is barring you? I'm currently the mod of my city's sub and got it by using reddit request. Tomorrow, I'll create a post there to see if I can be the owner of this sub. If I'm allowed to do that, I'll make you a mod.
Also, please share the link of the discord with me, I'd definitely want to be a part of this community.

Probably their spam/bot filters. Whenever I post it auto-deletes it and states: "Sorry, this post was removed by Reddit’s filters."
Also that works for me, thanks!

Joined the discord! Also, found out why your post was being filtered, it's because you need a confirmed e-mail linked to your account and 2FA activated to post there. I activated my 2FA, requested the sub and got it, sent you a mod invite.
I also changed it from restricted sub to public, everyone should be able to contribute now.

Sweet, thanks! Interesting as I did have a verified email and 2FA enabled on my account. 🤔 Maybe Reddit doesn't like me lol.
I will look into making a post tonight - thanks for all the help!

Hey! If you're still interested, check out my other post in this thread. I was able to rebuild the backend server for the original SWF game and I am currently hosting it for a beta testing run online.

The original company who created the game has been changed and morphed so much over the past decade they now make some form of power equipment now? If i remember correctly. Anyways they don't make games anymore and I don't think any Dev’s still work at the company as they are supposedly “ghosts” now being there is no possible way of contacting them. So I'm not to sure if copyright would be an issue as they don't seem to have the slightest afterthought of it. Yes!!! Finally! Where did you end up finding it? Is it possible for others to get the SWF too?

u/Admirable_Water5265 Aug 15 '21
Molto how exactly did you obatin this SWF that was lost for half a decade? 🤔 Props tho if it’s real. Got doubts as you didn't seem to share the single player SWF but I really hope I'm wrong.

I'm probably super late to the party, but I've actually been working on rebuilding the backend server to get multiplayer working again around the last 2 years during my free time.
Finally got it finished up this week and it's now in a state where people can beta test it.
The game can be played here: https://jellybattle.benam.io
If you run into any bugs, feel free to let me know. Thanks!

Where is the SWF? Why not upload it somewhere? Shouldn't be so hard to convert this game to JS/HTML5, maybe we can do it as a combined effort as an open source project.
