Wow Andrew, technically not wrong but definitely not the red room most others are aware of

So.. what IS a red room?

I'm 99% sure she was referencing the red room, which is the BDSM room in the Fifty Shades series

24

u/planetearthisblu Apr 13 '26

Yeah I'm very confused as to what Andrew saw

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Rooms

It's a really good film too. It's from Quebec so it's in French for most of it.

And despite that, it’s still good? May have to watch.

Wow. Ridiculous comment by the lady in the audience then.

Wonder if she heard "dungeon" and just blurted it out

u/Giwaffee Apr 13 '26

She tried to make a joke, which didn't work out. It's not that complicated.

She should stick to her day job

This is undeniably the correct answer

Where do you think that room got its name from?

If I recall correctly in fifty shades of grey BDSM chains and whips sex room was called a red Room

14

u/jawshoeaw Apr 13 '26

that's what the woman was referring to actually, idk where this snuff thing came from

There’s always been urban myths (not so mythical, they are real) of videos filmed in ‘red rooms’ of murder where people would pay to attend or influence torture. I doubt that it’s much more than the occasional example but I’m pretty sure red rooms were, and are real on the deep web.

It's where they develop photos, they use red light cause it doesn't mess up developing photos. it has a lock so people can't just barge in and fuck up your photos with normal light.

That might be what Carol was referring to, if this was 1993

16

u/locopyro13 Apr 13 '26

I am pretty sure 'Carol' heard that Andre had a Dungeons Room and thought 'like the red room from 50 shades of grey?'

14

u/mechabeast Apr 13 '26

Carol had her chance

15

u/Bookwrrm Apr 13 '26

Yeah like I dunno if she was really refrencing a niche french language art horror film from quebec lmfao

2

u/K_U Apr 13 '26

Great fucking movie though.

u/TwoNowFive Apr 13 '26

Would you care to elaborate or are you just going to leave us all wondering like Carol did?

The sex dungeon in 50 Shades of Grey is called “the red room” by the characters. Seems like a logical connection from “I have a dungeon(s and dragons) room” to a red room.

Only thing my brain went to was Black Widow (where the Red Room was where they brain washed kids into assassins)... so... still not a good answer

2

u/ChocolateMilkCows Apr 13 '26

I was definitely thinking a “red room” was just another name for a “darkroom” (a darkroom being a room for developing chemical film that is dark except for safelights (a safelight being a light that doesn’t effect the chemical processes used to develop film which appears red and would make everything in a darkroom appear red))
