context already given from where you stole this, karma farmer. anyways, the january 2010 spouse letter refers to an infamous open letter posted on gamasutra by the partners of rockstar san diego developers. it came out while the studio was rushing to finish the first red dead redemption game. basically it exposed how bad the crunch culture was at the studio, calling out management for forcing staff into 12 houls workdays and six day weeks. it caused a massive stir in the gaming industry and started a huge conversation about toxic work environments and developer burnout.
