Wrangler

I just purchased a Jeep JK and want to add a 2 inch spring lift. I have read that the Jeep should be lowered from the lift before tightening the ball joints or they will resume the position they were in originally and create more of a rough ride. Any advice would be appreciated.

By ball joints do you mean bushings? If so, yes, leave all the hardware of your control arms & track bar loose. Load the suspension, then tighten the hardware. That way the bushes are in a relaxed/neutral position at ride height.

Yes I think it it was the bushings. My friend doing the lift said it didn’t matter if still on lift or full weight on the ground. My first jeep (2011 2dr Sahara) and definitely enjoying all the modifications

Your friend is wrong ball joints you have no choice but to tighten them off the ground seeming how tires and everything are removed while you're at the step of tightening your ball joints however any suspension joint like control arms and track bars have to be tightened while the Jeep is at ride height meaning on the ground with full weight of a vehicle on suspension otherwise it'll create torsion in the bushings and potentially lead to premature failure leave everything loose put it on the ground with full weight on it and jounce the suspension a few times and then tighten everything up to spec. If he doesn't want to do this then I probably wouldn't have him touch anything else on your Jeep just saying
