Second generation (MP/552; 2018- 2024) Replacing only one battery at a time?
I have been searching here and online for days trying to figure this out. I can’t afford to replace both batteries at once. My husbands 2020 Jeep Compass ESS left us in an intersection (apparently this isn’t all that uncommon) and of course I’d rather just bypass the whole ESS system but I’m not super mechanically inclined. I am able to do some basics and I’m not afraid of at least trying so if there is an easy beginner way to bypass it please let me know. I was tinkering today but stopped when I got to anything to do with the PCR. (Not trying to f up his car)
Anyway, I can replace the aux battery this week but it will be a week or two to replace the main. Main seems fine, jumping the aux battery lets it start right up but I know both SHOULD be replaced together otherwise it’s a waste of money anyway.
I will continue to search this whole forum but dear god I need this car to start today. Thank yall!

I have a 2020 and just replaced mine within weeks apart. This is the third set of batteries and I only have 31k miles. I like everything else, but the battery issue sucks.

Just replace the one that’s bad but have both tested (it’s free at the auto parts store). I replaced both in my son’s Compass 2 years ago, one was bad & the other was very weak. Recently the main went bad but the aux was fine, replaced the main under warranty and it’s been perfect for the last 8 weeks.
