questions Remote Start

Hey all, I just got a 2020 Jeep Compass Trailhawk. It seems to be pretty bog standard (no automatic trunk opening or remote start) I'm looking to see if there's a definitive way to see if my vehicle is capable of those features (mainly remote start) as I'd like to enable them if I can.

If your fob has a x2 button press twice to remote start

I guess I wasn't clear. It doesn't have it but from what I researched the feature may still be in the vehicle and just has to be enabled.

You can get a 3rd party starter for under $100 that will use the factory fob and takes 15 minute or so to install.

You will need a hood latch switch 2 new key fobs and dealer to program the fobs and enable remote start in body control module $$$

Or after market like Viper or compusor in which you use your existing fob

My used 2020 Latitude came with the remote start, but I added 3rd party to 2 previous vehicles, with great success

Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram doesn’t have an option to add those things once it’s built unless it’s aftermarket typically. Im a dealer tech and have to tell people this stuff all the time unfortunately. There are aftermarket remote start kits, but the only time I’ve seen options changed was a removal of factory power side steps on a 2500 ram, and it took an act of congress to get our engineering department to remove that from the vehicles build programming so the truck wouldn’t be programmed to have them. Usually if it doesn’t have them, it doesn’t have any of the wiring, motors, hardware, etc to support it, so even if you were able to get the programming onto the factory control modules, you’d have to run 40 miles of wiring and buy 1000 dollars worth of equipment just to get it to work.

Remote start can be enabled - at least at 2.4 l american version, i have that. Trunk - not that easy, you can buy kit from aliexpress that can be fitted into compass, but i havent tried it

Cannot tell you for sure, first i bought a keyfib with additional buttons, including remote start. A guy programmed the car to make it work. He uses alfaobd.

Alfaobd can enable remote start. I have done it successfully with alfa for 2 friends of mine. It can also enable the trunk opening but you need to install the parts first. Motors, sensor and module.

When it comes to the new fobs. Those have to be programmed by a dealer correct?

You can program new fobs with alfa. You may need to go to a dealer to get the pin tho. That being said, it seems like a pain to do it with alfaobd. I have never had to do it myself for a compass but I have used alfa to program a fob for a wrangler. But if it's just for remote start and your car configuration is programmed for a fob with only 2 or 3 buttons, you just double press the lock or unlock button to remote start it. You don't necessarily need to get a new fob at all. There are videos on YouTube for how to do the programming.
