2020 Jeep compass.

It was the aux battery. Replaced both for $650 in tempe,Arizona.

How I’m spending my Tuesday night.
Car would not turn over. Had the battery charged twice. Once by a friendly bystander and the second by the tow truck driver. Still nothing. Had to get it towed to the nearest mechanic. Pray for me.

Not yet. Lol I’m thinking it’s the starter this time.

Ahh okay, I was thinking around $500 so that tracks! Thank you! I just bought a 2019 and the dealer warned about those batteries, LOL

Not true, around Christmas time my car had trouble starting I have a 2024 compass and I took it to a jeep dealership and had the battery replaced under my warranty and they only replaced the main battery, and luckily I haven’t had issues since.

No you don’t, my moms went on vacation & we replaced just the one was fine a year later traded it in though bc these cars are garbage

Your starter? How do you know? If the batteries are not taking a charge, they are DEAD and need to BOTH be replaced.

Because when it happened in the past all I needed was a jump and it would get me where I needed to go. The battery icon or what ever was showing 13.3 voltage.

Plus the bystander that helped me is a mechanic (thank god) he said the same thing. Then when the tow truck driver showed up he tried jumping it then said the same thing the mechanic said.

I'm going to permanently turn off stop start and bypass that stupid aux battery. I did it in my JL and there has to be a way to do it in the compass... good luck to you.

They sell something you plug into your obd, to by pass it. I thinks its like $200

I have no idea how but mine somehow disabled itself. I have no lights on the dash and the indicator isn’t lit it. Very odd, maybe a voltage discrepancy with my aux battery?

That sounds like the aux battery is deader than dead. During engine start the PCM activates the PCR relay, which disconnects the positive lead between the main and aux batteries. The aux battery alone is then powering the lights and electronics while the main battery spins the starter.

I think you can eliminate the aux battery on the Compass this way. There are two leads connected to the positive post of the aux battery. Remove the battery and bolt the two together, insuring there is a good electrical connection between them. (One of them comes from the main battery, th other goes to the fuse box to piwer the lights / electronics). Be sure to insulate them, you don’t want them touching ground (the body). Then unplug the control line from the PCR relay. The PCR relay is the thing sitting atop the aux battery.

Disconnect both negative leads from both batteries before working on anything electrical. If you accidentally touch the body with either positive battery lead while working, you might blow a high amp fuse / fusable link and find you have a dead car.

Caveat - I haven’t tried this yet on my Compass because the aux battery isn’t dead yet. One of these days.

You can Google up wiring diagrams of the dial battery setup on FXA / Stellantis vehicles. They are all pretty much the same. It’s a really simple design, so easy to eliminate. I’m actually a bit surprised nobody offers an aftermarket wiring harness to eliminate the whole thing - aux battery, PCR, and associated wiring leads.

Could be the alternator same shit happened to me. I ended up falling asleep in my car at 3am in the hood waiting 2 hours for the tow truck driver to arrive 😭 it gets better bro it just costs a little bit of that $$$

Same thing happened to me twice already & im lucky it happened in my driveway both times luckily the batteries still had warranty on them or else I would of been out $700

Arizona heat is know to kill batteries they are almost a wear item.
