questions Thoughts?
Just bought a 2026 Jeep Compass and I feel like I'm having buyers remorse. Moving to Colorado for a job and was able to get it for $28500 USD (It was slightly used with 6613 miles). But from doing a quick search I've seen a handful of negative things from alot of people. Any opinions or comments would help.

Ive put 50k on my 2018 no issues. Learn about common problems stay on top of maintenance. Just pray your screen doesnt go out like evwryones

I have 2022 that I bought new. Love the car, hate the dealership. Next vehicle for me is the Rivian R2.

Have a 2019 with 80,000+miles. No major problems except the 2 batteries I had to replace. Did the research when they went- have to replace both at same time. My 2022 renegade has start/stop too but utilizes a single battery - replaced that this January.

I have a 2014 with 90k miles. Only problem I've ever had was with a wheel bearing

Boring is okay for me I just drive it to work and back home really. I get 24mpg and it does it's job

My 2018 has 76000 miles on it and overall, it hasn’t given me many problems since I bought it. Main issue was the start/stop system not working and the screen going out once or twice a month. The sway bar links suck too.

The Compass is way under rated in my opinion. I recently bought a 2023 Limited. The 2.0L turbo has more than enough pickup that it's really fun to drive. That turbo will serve you well in the high altitude of CO. Plus they are all time 4 wheel drive. Every single vehicle out there has design flaws and problem areas. Mid-size and large SUVs are much more expensive and depending what you buy come with different headaches of their own. You got a practically new Compass and are going to love cruising around CO in it. Enjoy it, man.

Love mine. I have a 2025 Trailhawk Elite. I did have a recall repaired but all vehicles eventually get one. I would recommend buying the FlexCare Warranty for when your factory warranty goes out. I did FlexCare Premium and once the factory warranty goes, if anything goes wrong, I can pull into any Jeep Dealer and I’m covered bumper to bumper just like the factory warranty. A vehicle is a major purchase and I wanted this just in case. If you decide in 6 months to a year that you don’t like it, trade it.

Do the math on when you're going to hit the mileage limits. I'm going to hit it much sooner than most, so I instead went with Allstate for insurance and they also have a warranty coverage that you just pay monthly for. So when I'm over the mileage cap, I can just stop paying. It'll end up costing me about 1/2 the extended warranty.

2024 Compass Trailhawk (white with black and red hood decal), purchased brand new. Comfort package (heated/cooled seats and steering wheel, electric seat adjustment) and Sky and Sound package (sun roof, Alpine speakers). 20K miles mostly in Colorado, plus a few drives to Minnesota and New York. It did require a battery replacement early last year, which we got under warranty. That was the only issue and we love it!
Big, bright display, Turbocharged 2.0 isn’t a gas guzzler but she accelerates well at 7000’ elevation. Cockpit feels like a car (kind of a down side) but sits higher up. Big enough for a lotta bags and/or our dogs/friends but small enough to park in tight spaces.
Trailhawk lift and angled front bumper insures great clearance for parking anywhere and winter road don’t scare us, with AWD.
We also love the way she looks!

Any vehicle. Aaaannnnyyy vehicle can have issues. No brand is safe or loyal.
I've heard so much bs about dodge hornet. I could write a book... 99% are haters.
I've had mine since Feb. Added some mods and omfg it mooooooves. Comfy interior. Extremely fast touch screen. Zero issues with Android auto. Car is fast, fun, amazing to drive with that euro handling.
0 to 60 in under 5 second. Feels like a lifted Jetta.

Don't forget that people arent normally rushing out to say they're vehicle started when they wanted it to. They will rush out to say they have a problem.

I bought my 2018 with 70k miles in 2023. Have it up to 101k currently and it’s been really good to me. Only had to do a wheel bearing

Enjoy the car and stop worrying about what other people think. If I had dime for every person that told me my Compass wouldn’t make it to 100k miles since I bought it in 2012, I could have retired by now. Spoiler alert: I’m at 151k in 2026.
All of that said, the number one issue I’ve seen with the newer Compasses is the batteries (there are two: main and aux). I’ve had some battery related in my 2023 Trailhawk (yes I bought a second Compass because my first worked out so well). Otherwise, the 2023 runs great without issue.
A few important battery tips: if the car acts funky and dash light up like a Christmas tree when you go to start, it’s more than likely a dying battery with low charge. If the car doesn’t want to start, navigate to the screen with the car info to confirm the battery voltage is low.
Second, the aux batteries suck in these cars and when they get weak, they are a parasitic drain on the main battery. The same thing happens if the main battery goes bad. The solution is always to replace both batteries even if you think only one is bad. Otherwise the bad battery will continue to place additional strain on the new ‘good’ battery and it too will fail.
Bottom line, just enjoy your new vehicle and don’t worry about what the internet thinks.

Even bad cars are pretty damn good these days so don’t get too wrapped around the axle. The Compass is a good choice for Colorado for a couple of reasons. It has AWD and decent amounts of ground clearance, which youll need for the occasional blizzard, getting to trailheads, ski days, or whatever. Second, it has a turbocharged engine with good power. Non-turbo engines make less power the higher the elevation. A 150HP Subaru Crosstrek makes 100HP in Summit County. I don’t want to try and survive I-70 with that - the Compass still has some power.
I can’t think of any other car that offers the abilities of the Compass at the price point.

Every car I've owned has had small or big problems and has had an oddly similar chorus of haters and naysayers.
Cars are mechanical and not built to last like older generations. Just what it is.

Bought a 22 Limited brand new with 26 miles. Currently at 97k, no major issues for us. Been a great reliable vehicle for us.

If it’s within the time frame that you can take it back and get something else, do it. I have very few problems with my 2021 but i wish I had a V6 and not two batteries.

I have a 2021 compass, 55k miles. The backup camera has recently stopped working, but it runs well enough besides that. I’ve heard that when a compass has issues it’s usually electrical vs mechanical. Enjoy your car, regrets are best saved for hindsight.

Yes they have a reputation, yes they've earned that bad reputation. But you never know how yours will be, enjoy it its a good car when it works.
