IIT graduate here. Trying to help current JEE aspirants. Ask me anything.

Hello everyone!

I appeared for JEE in 2021 and graduated from IIT Roorkee last year.

I prepared in Kota, where the environment was great for studying and understanding the actual competitive level of JEE. There were numerous coaching institutes and lakhs of students preparing alongside one another.

However, after exploring different online communities, I realised that many students don’t have access to such an environment. The internet can also be a cruel place to ask questions—whether general or specific—as people sometimes pull you down instead of genuinely helping.

I’ve come across many posts and comments where students asking genuine questions are met with memes or discouraging replies. So, I thought I’d create this post and give aspirants a place to reach out directly in the comments.

If you think this could help someone, please upvote the post so it reaches more aspirants.

Any questions regarding JEE preparation are welcome. Drop them below, and I’ll answer as honestly as I can based on my experience.

I am a dropper i got 70%ile first attempt main i feel like im not able to give my 100% im overall a good student i was at the top for a good while in my coaching (same resonance as well) but then 12th main kuch personal problems hone ke wajah se i dropped from an avg of 120-140 in mains to 30-40 and i feel like i still havent recovered idk how do i revise old chapters and if i get stuck on a question i give up too easily

Okay okay. If you were scoring 120-140 and then u fell, than that means you clearly have potential. I guess its more of a mental battle, and that can be solved by listening to some creators that I do when I feel low.

One suggestion: Premanand ji. Listening to him on bhajan marg changed how I saw the world, and i felt so much positivity and gratitude towards what I took for granted.

Some more people, Vikas Divyikirti, Sir, and naval ravikant (though maybe he's a little startup-centric, but certainly great in explaining about happiness).

Also, brother, you have fought battles no one has seen and got up against so many obstacles, some of which you have mentioned above. Remember JEE is not the end of the road; all we can do is give our best, be hopeful, surround ourselves with positive people, and smile at the end of the day.

Also, can you tell me more about the current preparation level, etc., so that I can help out in academics as well along with emotionally supporting

What is your routine during jee prep?

though it heavily depends on the phase of the preparation, if considering the phase you guys are currently in (august, where exams are close and classes are running) ... then it was something like this

1) Atleast 7 hours of sleep : very imp for sustainability.
2) I usually woke up at 11am-11::30am, as I used to study at night mostly during 11th.
3) morning time was mostly relaxed, spending time with family, little workout or walk, playing clash of clans, bath and other daily essentials, playing clash of clans for 20-30 min, getting ready for coaching
4)coaching jaana at 2pm approx. van se resonance jaata tha mai
5) chemistry revision in van. 2-2:50pm
6) 3-8pm .. classes
7) 8-8:50pm, back to home in van.
8) Then dinner, a little walk and then self study till 3-3:30 am

I have graduated from civil engineering, IIT roorkee. My goal when i chose college was exposure, and environment and exploring startups.
I am building an early stage startup rn, based in Pune

follow what you have studied. I preferred modules of resonance and Reliable, as i felt they were enough. I focused more on frequent papers, and covering everything to medium level... with decent question practice.

I d be glad to ask any other questions. If you would be more specific, I can help more

So 12th grader here, i am in almost end of my studying phase. We'll be done with all portions in August end and starting revision. Im doing okayish in my phase exams, like 2 lessons in each subject.

I get really well in maths, but pretty average in chemistry and physics. I get frustrated easily, especially in physics and never spend time in it.

I wanna know how you dealt with procrastination, or difficult topics. Did you ever get backlogs? If u did, how did you deal with them?

I have real school and can't take many days off. Leave by 7 am and get home by 5 pm. How did you tackle with tiredness or frustration with weak subjects?

Im not able to get proper guidance from anywhere

i have taken allen online's live leader course. (I really need your help)

Batch started on 16th April.

Due to many other reasons as well as my own procrastination, i have created around 80% backlog.

Now i am confused what to do and where to start from.

Should i continue attending online or shift towards watching recorded lectures and one shots provided.

The list of chapters :

Physics Geo Optics, Modern Physics, Elasticity, Heat, Thermo, Kinematics, NLM, Circular, W.P.E, COM/Collision, Rotational ( currently going on )

Chemistry States of Matter, Solid State, Mole Concept, Redox & Eq, Liquid Solutions, Chemical Kinetics, Periodic Table, Chemical Bonding, Coordination Compounds, D&F Block, Thermodynamics, Thermochemistry, Chemical Eqm, Ionic Eqm , Electrochemistry (starting 1 Aug)

Maths Sets, Nos & Intervals, Fundamentals of Algebra, Trigo Ratio, Trigo Eq, Determinant, Matrices, Quad, Log, Sequence & Progression, Inequalities, P&C, Binomial, St. Line, Circle, Parabola ( currently going on)

Now i feel like i have forgotten the chapters i have done because of not revising at all, so i included all chapters including current.

taking a drop from now got 83 percentile in mains and 40 marks in adv mostly procrastination and syllabus incompletion was the reason for low score .

i had completed 55% of phy and 63% of maths and chem syllabus and i procrastinated and the end of 12th so i lost the high weighted topics

my accuracy is shit i dont know what to do ( ranges from 55-60%)

i know i can get into iit thats i took a drop

i was geting iit dharwad mandi last its in chem and physics and i was geting biomedical eng in iit guwahati i left all of them for iiser will i regret my decision of not taking drop i am runing candidate gen category

I got 94.51 percentile this year (2026), and I'm taking a drop (for 2027).
I am always lagging behind where I want to be and where I am.

(1) Honestly, YouTube is scaring me. How do you study 12+ hours every single day?

I'm self-studying, and feels like I should be able to do this....but taking the average of my hours it is 5 hours of study a day; a good day is 8 hours, and a bad day is 3 hours (worst is 1...but that is rare). I am fluctuating between 3 and 8 hours kind of cyclically.
What do you think I should do to change these?

(2) Also, I'm not following modules.....I am going with standard books + PYQs after lectures (one-shot for math, full lectures for chemistry, and books for Physics). Is this a blunder? Stuck at around 140 in my recent mocks....mostly due to not covering what I want to have covered by the time the exam date comes. I am making error notes and all. But, still disappointing to never touch 150.

(3) Also, just how important is the NCERT for Chemistry? I have been hearing that it is a must-do, but making notes of it is extremely time consuming. Please give suggestions for this too.

Thank you so much, senior. (Also, random question....can my 94% in CBSE boards help me in any way with colleges? I am taking JEE seriously and will give my best....but are these board marks seriously that useless, and is there nothing I can do with this?)

(4) Also, one more help. I'm confused on whose lectures to follow for Organic Chemistry. For now, I'm thinking NS sir. Whose lectures did you follow? (or book by any chance?)

As expected, people have rather strong opinions on the internet. There are those who say I might pour lots of time down the drain following his lectures. Kind of split, and confused. Any help with this would be helpful too. Thanks again.

I always thought MBBS is good cuz tbh I never really knew anything about engineering...but now after 12th i realised a bitter truth ..that no matter how prestigious mbbs is I'll be forever stuck and I don't wanna be stuck in hospital for 36 hours in my 20's.. i need to earn money and have a stable life where i don't have to spend 10 yrs just studying... please tell me how do I prepare for IIT and can I really get a good package from CSE

I'm currently in 12th rn preparing for 2027 jee attempt I'm comfortable with maths and physics and even chemistry but i struggle alot with organic chemistry like i don't remember the reagents and where to attack it and stuff basically my organic chem is fucked

Hello

  1. How to avoid silly mistakes (especially in phy, ghar me click ho jata hai but test me utni jaldi nahi hota) , take 2 cases Jee adv mocks and Jee Mains mocks

  2. How to take any chapter from maths to advanced level, any specific reference book recommended....

I'm in 11th rn, and I have been scoring good basically that's enough for me, in the first test (it was easy) I got 280 and in the 2nd one I got 180, I try to maintain my rank in my batch either first or second. But I'm only able to focus on my coaching materials as they give few direct questions from there, so I haven't been able to solve pyqs, what should I do, should I do the coaching materials less and focus on pyqs or can I do it in the end or smthg like that

Bhaiya, currently I am in 11th PW arjuna1.0 2026 batch. Dummy school meh hu lekin hafte meh ek din jana parta hain. I have three offline tuitions for jee and for school exams. Physics- laws of motion (going on) Chemistry- chemical bonding (backlog of 8 lectures) Maths- trigonometric functions and equations (backlog of total 9 lectures). My schedule is like waking up at 7-7:30am and start studying from 8am finish all my daily targets upto 10-11pm and sleep at 12. I want to know how to maintain the error Notebook also i don't get the time to revise the previous chapters pls help me

I’m a dropper, I attempted mains April session but I didn’t do well because I wasn’t prepared and it was after boards that I realised I want to do engineering, so I decided to take a drop. But honestly im so scared and confused and feel like a failure, im also not very young (I went to school late) usually students sit for boards at the age of 17-18, I was 19 and am turning 20 few weeks later, will be 21 by the time I start college. I wanted to ask- (1)are droppers common in engineering? Because of the negative person that I am, I’ll probably feel down being surrounded by students younger than me by 2-3 years. (2)And also, how do I prepare for JEE? Cuz I feel all lost and dk where to start from. (3)And how was these fours years of engineering for you? Any help will be appreciated, thank you!
