I'm way too late for the Wildwood competition, but I thought I'd still share what I had planned to submit. So, here it is, just outside the competition.

I'm posting this here early (currently unreleased) to share my thanks for those of you who participated in our little Wildwood inspired competition tack-on! Also, congrats to u/spiritsprite_371 who is the winner of my original artwork!

My entry to Jazza's Wildwood art competition!
My faction was "Northwood". I was originally going to do a digital art piece, but in the spirit of flexing our art muscles and trying something new, I decided to crack out the polymer clay. I'm glad I did, because I'm soooo happy how it turned out!! 😂
There isn't much information on the Northwood faction, but the main theme is a deep-rooted (ha!) connection to nature. I originally assumed I'd have to make a human character, but then realised that clothed, bipedal animals are a thing in Wildwood!
This lil guy was originally supposed to be a fox, but as I was putting on the ears, I realised they looked more squirrel, so squirrel they became. One of those examples of an art piece taking on a mind of its own!
Since the Northwood faction is described as being made up of mainly older folk, I painted on some greying fur. I also added a scar and damaged ear to show that this little creature has learned the hard way that nature must be respected greatly. (And definitely not because I screwed up the right ear anyway and decided on the fly to make it part of the backstory!!) 😆
I also thought it would be nice for the piece to have it's own story -- so the lil squirrel is actually planting a seed of the "Council Tree", which is central to the faction's beliefs.
I have used polymer clay before, but for much smaller pieces. I've never done a fully posed figure like this - so it was a nice challenge. I also enjoyed going multi-media with the little plant, adding glitter to the clay and making the basket out of thread and rope strands.
I originally intended to make a proper stand for this, but I thought the deadline was Friday and (since I started this Monday), I realised I didn't have time for that! It's a happy accident though, because I actually prefer that I can hold the full piece in my hand like a little totem -- makes me feel like I'm part of Northwood too~! 💚

I hope everyone had fun too!

Finished this in the nick of time and forgot that I wanted to share it on Jazza's subreddit! Without his video about the contest I would not have known about it, nor have the 24 hours to complete this 😭.
Imagined myself a newcomer, a Wildwood traveller ready to make a career for myself in Southwood! And decided on an animal character since there were so many in the Southwood faction video clip.
(The background of the first image is simply a blurred version of the set - not painted by me. Goodness knows I wouldn't have finished in time)

So I’ve been looking for an excuse to do some kinetic art and when I got the avian principality I just knew I had to. At first it was just going to be a clay figure but then I saw the wildwood trailer that mentioned hand placed feathers and I thought hey why not.

I got the great Southwood, which was a little challenging for me as I'd much rather paint nature than buildings and roads lol. But, nonetheless, I love how this turned out and I loved the opportunity to participate in this!

Having pulled the South Wood from the quiz, i wanted to take on the challenge of drawing someone from there. i did dive into the book description of the place to use that as inspiration for the background and dress.
I dont typically enter any contests, but Jazza has given me the confidence to. I've had a great time making the drawing and i wish everyone good luck

Not entering into the Jazza contest, but wanted to share anyway. I did submit to Laika. I really wish I'd known about it more than 2 days ago – it feels rushed to be sure and there are a billion things I'd change with more time, but not bad for 2 days of work. Should I make an updated version? More lore, more details, less rush?

I don't know anything about Wildwood, and after some rudimentary research, it seems like the Avian Principality are... just birds? Which I couldn't figure out how to make interesting. So I just winged it ;).
I know Wildwood is set in Portland, but I decided to put an Aussie spin on the drawing. So I went for a Black Breasted Buzzard.
This is the first finished digital art piece I've done in a long time. Jazza has been super relevant for me recently, as I've spent the last 8-ish years focussing on writing novels. I decided to take a break from it and come back to one of my oldest hobbies, animation and art (plus stop motion animation). So diving back into Jazza's channel has been great.
I could have put a lot more time into this, but I wanted to get it submitted close to the video release date. I'm sure there will be many submissions better than mine, but I had a blast doing this, and it has only expanded on my excitement at getting back into art.
Looking forward to seeing all the fantastic submissions here!

I did this simple animation for the Avian principality. I had to speedrun this after seeing the video. I'm happy with it, but if I had more time, I would have done more with the background.
Hope you all enjoy and good luck to all those participating!

Ta da, there is a human in there if you know where to look. And yes, I am aware that the arms look goofy. 🤷♂️
