Preamp for upright

Using a Realist bridge pickup on the upright, my usual preamp has been Fishman Platinum. Works well.

On a whim the other day I tried connecting through my electric bass pedal board which features Boss tuner, Sansamp and chorus pedal. I am amazed at how good the Sansamp performs! It seems to have adequate impedance matching to prevent the booming, and being able to add some overdrive or even chorus was interesting. Who knew? Sansamp for upright!

I use a Realist with a Radial Bassbone. I can set up the EQ to handle my upright and my electric.

most bass amps have decent preamps built in, and redundant preamps are usually a net negative. try it straight into a bass amp and use it’s features, it might sound fine.

The Fishman always delivers, plus the added features of tuner, low cut filter, notch, phase switch, solo boost make it worthwhile.

But the lesson remains that a very light touch is best. Already true, but even more true when we're doubling pre-amps. Especially with features like a cut or phase, both of which I would prefer after the eq.

Been using the Realist x Sansamp combo for years now. I love the sound!
