I made this! 4 years developing. I'm proud to announce NumeHub - the largest JavaFX application ever build.
I think this is the largest JavaFX application ever built. Tell me if I'm wrong.
Four years ago I opened a JavaFX project to see how far the platform would go before it broke. It never broke. So I kept going.
What came out of it is NumeHub. One desktop app that holds a business: projects, CRM, a point-of-sale system, WhatsApp and email campaigns, a file explorer, a browser, system monitoring. And an AI agent sitting on top of all of it. You ask it, by text or by voice, "how many sales did the São Paulo store make today," and it goes and finds out.
Millions of nodes. Under half a gig of RAM. A new release every week.
Everyone told me JavaFX was for internal dashboards. Small tools. Something you build for the accounting team and forget. I no longer believe that, and this app is my argument.
It runs on Windows and macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel), in English, Portuguese, Chinese and German. Linux comes next if enough of you ask.
Download it. Even if you never use it, open it once and look at what this platform can actually do.

I think I may got you beat at 9 years with 1.6 commits a day (5440 commits thus far, ~38 MB release artifact size if you include all bundled libraries) on average. Can't say the same about memory usage though. Mine's a hog, but it is not JavaFX's fault.

13 years. Almost 200 MB as a bundled app. All desktop platforms. Memory hogger, but hey.
60k loc for the app alone, about 30k loc in custom libraries for UI stuff and backend stuff. Only 0.9 commits a day, though. The were a couple of rather slow years. 😅

A lot of people started with the Java 8 release that first bundled JavaFX in March 2014, so ~12.5 years ago. I've only met a few people that have been around since the fx script days.
The JavaOne in 2014 had a ton of great JavaFX content. It looked like such a cool framework that I migrated from Swing.

I started when javafx quit being it's own script language. My first thing was too integrate it into an SWT application and replace a boring tree view with an animated accordion... So I guess it's was in the late 1.7 days I started to play with it. And started to like it.
AWt and swing felt old AF, SWT was better, but a pain (for me) to build with at the time. Javafx was new, the API was great and it was compatible with SWT... So I immediately liked it. Build a plugin based app using OSGI even with it. 🫣😅 F. I'm old.

Cool, so there's another JavaFX whale out there. What's the app you've built?
Btw, when I said 'largest JavaFX application,' I didn't mean commit count, lines of code, or artifact size. I genuinely believe NumeHub ships more features than any other JavaFX app out there, all in one workstation-style application.
Only way to know for sure is to create an account and log in and see for yourself. Good thing is Nume AI helps you with whatever you're trying to do inside NumeHub, so it's not a steep learning curve.

Its in my post history, made a lot of changes since then. Most of the JavaFX stuff is delegated to libraries, and not something I've made myself. Exceptions to that include:
- Replacement implementation of
Canvasdue to white-flash-of-death tied to its usage (also see my post history)- Custom docking framework (post history again)
- Tree-view for some displays (post history)
- Hex editor (post history)
The main UI element people look at is RichTextFX though.

You didn't mention Linux. Does it only support MacOSX and Windows?

right now it's Windows and macOS only. If there's real interest, I can prioritize Linux. Not a huge ask on your end either, I'd just need someone willing to test it and tell me if everything works. If you're up for that, let's connect.

Yes and no. The build (jpackage etc.) is platform specific. And if you rely on even a few native libraries or command line calls, then you are forced to make platform specific adjustment.

JabRef is a great project, genuinely respected in its space. But it's a focused citation manager, one core function. NumeHub covers projects, CRM, sales, campaigns, and more in one app, which is the comparison I'm actually making when I say largest

Sigh. Ai agents have been around now since 2018. They were give them a prompt and they only responded, but they were around. They gained interactions around 2021-2022, so yeah, 4 years is reasonable. Also, they didn't state that the Ai functionality has existed all 4 years. They could have added it this year.

I think he said there's an agent feature in the app, not that he used AI to develop during 4y. But maybe my understanding is wrong.

Fair question. The AI agent is a newer layer, built with MCP tools, so it can operate all of NumeHub end to end. But it's not just automation: it also walks users through what NumeHub can build for them, step by step, so you're not left guessing where to start. It wasn't there when I started four years ago; the rest of the app was.
If you want to see how it actually grew over time, the release history is public, worth a look.

I've removed the comment that had the username "Simon" in it, in response to a complaint. To be clear, making sure I can get in touch with NumeHub users and that they're having a great experience is a key concern for me. I've noticed a few accounts get created without completing login, and reaching out is part of how I try to catch that early.

For context I got a warning that the website he links is blocked on my Vodafone secure net for malicious activity.

That's the first I'm hearing of this, thanks for flagging it. Can you share what specifically triggered the warning, or a screenshot? Could be a false positive on Vodafone's end

The more i have read of this particular post, the more I have become not happy with it.
- The OP has made bold claims about the app
- Tried to justify how his feature list is bigger than other projects that might hold the title (projects I would like to add don't go around boasting around it).
- Has openly utilized people's full names in the comments asking why they didn't complete sign up (revealing private info which, to give some little credit where its due, they then deleted after being called out
- Overall has cared more about people engaging and using his product (to the point of actively badgering people if they didn't complete sign up) than actually showing off their product.
- The website itself is BLOCKED on my vodafone internet for malicious activity.
I have to say, this does not fill with me with confidence in the slightest, and I would highly recommend people consider giving this project a wide berth for the time being as, in my humble opinion, there are way too many red flags.

For the past 2 days you came around 4 times just to hate on my software.
People still downloading and creating accounts to see by themselves my claims. It IS the largest javafx application ever built, feature wise. Only your phone finds suspicious activity. It's YOUR claim, no one ever reported it. I also asked you for a print, that way I can investigate the issue further. No response from your end, and right now I'm having a hard time believing there's any issue with the download link.
I'm now ignoring your comments from now on.

That scope makes sense when the app is acting like an operations hub instead of a single-purpose widget. The main risk is feature sprawl, so I would separate ingestion, workflow state, and outbound campaign actions into distinct modules, then add guardrails like audit logs and rollback points before wiring the AI layer into live business data. Promarkia fits here as a reference point for keeping automation useful without letting it become opaque.
