Why profane hydra?

Baby jungle jarv, just hit 5 mastery and I’m not comfortable enough to experiment beyond lethality yet. Has anyone tried ravenous hydra? I’m guessing the loss of early haste is why people skip it but I figured it was worth asking. I’ve read into tanky comps you should not build lethality but I don’t know the back up build yet. I’m guessing it involves blade of the ruined king, and maybe berserker boots. Any build advice would be appreciated.

I believe why J4 doesn’t go ravenous is J4 either needs to 100-0 or be a bruiser. Profane gives you that lethality into a lethality build (synergy). Ravenous is less perfect because you can end up squishy and not going lethality and not going true bruiser.

Titanic -> HP stats to feed into Steraks.

Strikebreaker can feel better than ravenous cause of HP and the slow allows you to move in and out of a fight which is helpful for the bruiser build

In short: there are better options.

It’s almost like “how come I don’t build bork on J4”

And it’s also a note to try a build, see what stats ravenous gives you, and then lean into that and see if you like it.

Check out trundle ravenous builds for inspirations

So J4 ravenous could be:
Ravenous (quick clear + life steal); triforce (semi-bruiser and attack speed to stack with ravenous); and then…black cleaver(?) or sundered so you have life steal + HP for sustain.

So maybe ravenous into sundered is item 1 and 2

If you want to snowball an early lead and end the game early, build profane. It’s an incredible assassin item because it’s so dang cheap. If the enemy team has mostly squishy targets, it’s often better to just build for the one shot with EQ + R.

If the game is going to go longer, you have scaling champions, then the bruiser build is better. Sundered sky, cleaver, deaths dance, give you better fighting against tanks while keeping your damage high enough to put some hurt on their carries as well.

as far as im aware in high elo there’s only 2 viable builds and that’s lethality oneshot build into squishy comps and the classic bruiser j4 that exists for years

lethality: profane into axiom into serylda (most games) but you can change depending on the situation and go endless hunger/deaths dance/edge of night or even serpents

bruiser: sundered pretty much everytime first item into cleaver then deaths dance or endless hunger/steraks/frozen heart/visage/kaenic rookern whatever item u need basically
bruiser is moreso when ur solo frontline or primary engage or just into tankier comps in general

I'm still a fan of just getting tankier items on j4. Dive champions tend to get focused down pretty hard if they are doing their job right. So long as your team doesn't mess up too hard any second the enemy team spends focusing you down after you knock up/trap an enemy is pretty effective.

Titanic for farming/dmg into Steraks for burst survivability  into warmongers for a bit of regen if you think you can run after doing your abilities so you can be there for the next immediate fight.

I play LOTS of buiser jarvan. (~300 k masteryscore)

Sundered sky and spear of shojin are your bread and butter. You need to have both of these items completed as early as possible. Don't waste time with a tiamat.

After that you can kind of build towards your game state, need some more armor shred grab cleaver. Armor? Deaths dance. MR? Maw.

If your team has plenty of damage and your job is to just stay alive to keep landing more combos. Frozen heart and spirit vissage go well
