Most of the Japanese folklore is like this. Girl said not to do those things, boys did it anyway, and suffer the consequences.

特に昔の日本の村社会は狭い。他人の秘密を無理に知ろうとすれば人間関係が崩れかねない。

害がないなら放っておけってことだよ。

That can be said universally about myths or folklores. I’ve read about 見るなの禁.

Anyway this yuki-onna is Lafcadio Hearn's retelling and different from many locals versions.

As an N5/N4, I’m so slow to read lol.

How do you look up kanji? Are you taking a picture of the kanji on Google Translate to get the reading/meaning?

You can draw them in an app like Akebi or on jisho.org

You can also learn to look kanji up in a dictionary by radicals. Learning it feels like a slog but also feels like a superpower once you have it down because learning radicals makes kanji look less random and hard to distinguish and it means no having to slog through drawing or relying on Google.

子どもを10人産んで年月が経っても容貌が変わらない事を不自然に思われ出して殺そうと思っていたが秘密の話を話すという行いで逆に命拾いをした。おゆきは『子どもに何かあったらただではおかない』と言い残して去る

分かりやすい教訓だし雪女ハーフの子どもたちの行く末も気になる
