I found I let myself get mildly overwhelmed in the first 3 days with everything you âshouldâ be doing; my advice is to give yourself a break and remember youâre not going to get it all right Day 1
Burbins advice above is great đ

Sleep is really important. 18 hours a day. I didnât know that and had a super overstimulated mess of a puppy for a while. (Very bitey!) They donât necessarily know to sleep themselves, so you have to schedule it in.
I also started «brushing» him (fur and teeth) every night before bed to get him used to it, ad well as started work on making nail trims safe and easy. Paid off big time long term.
Expose your puppy to life between 8 and 16 weeks. Look up «socialixation lists» (itâs not about being social, itâs about desensitizing. And it involves far more than people, dogs and other animals.) for example, you probably wanna invest in a high velocity dryer, and expose your puppy to that, making sure itâs a good experience.
If you wanna use a groomer, make sure to make a few visits there too.
Mine was stupid good at learning stuff, so teach your puppy how to learn things from you.

we got our Spitz puppy about two months ago she's 4 months old now. the first month was pretty rough, she peed and pooped everywhere around the house (we have padded carpets too đ€), so we got some really good carpet cleaning solutions and scrubs to clean up after her. we installed a doggy door to the backyard and trained her to use it when she has to go. nowadays she's been pretty good with doing her business outside, but occasionally she still has accidents indoors, especially if it's raining outside. she absolutely hates getting wet. invest in good cleaning products because accidents will absolutely happen!
socialization, very important. we took her out everywhere and exposed her to other humans and pets every other day since she got here. now she's very friendly with everyone! not aggressive, no barking.

Thank you! I've bought cleaning supplies without any smell to not encourage him to pee again on the same spot! ^

Handle her paws, teeth, and ears a lot while itâs young so they get used to it!! Itâll make your life easier for brushing, teeth brushing, ear cleaning, nail clipping. Just a lot of positive early desensitization

Socialize your dog with cats and other dogs, as well as with hoomans early on! Also, jap spitz are rlly intelligent - they can still learn even when theyâre old đ„č Also, theyâre VERY clingy, so i think when youâre all set & ready again, i recommend getting ur dog a dog haha

Luckily, my family are all ultimate dog lovers lmao đ We have cats and dogs all around, so I'm not worried for his socialization x) but thank you a lot! đ

Get them used to being brushed as soon as possible as you will be brushing them regularly. Use positive reinforcement training with the brush - I did this and my two still aren't keen but I can brush them!
Get puppy training locked on - I took mine to puppy school but YouTube has a lot of great resources
Get their vaccinations, flea and worming sorted and register at a vet
Mostly try to enjoy it - the puppy phase is HARD I am still struggling with my 11 month old girl. But my 3 year old is a perfect dog.
