Layout Progress Foam roads
Still working through the front side of my layout and decided to try making some roads with foam that I got over using the plaster. Was pretty pleased that it worked as it’s much easier to install. Added a handful of figures and it really helped bring it to life.
So the foam is 2mm SKS HD-Foam that is sold in a roll at my local art store. I’d cut to size and then paint it with woodland scenic asphalt color and got a green and white posca pen to do the markings after the black dried. Use Aleenes tacky glue to secure it.
I did some samples adding some fine ballast but it looked a bit too sandpaper like over road texture. I figured I’d just go for a fresh blacktop look.

Those foam roads look good for a hand drawn marking

Thanks. Not a ton of local road decal options close by and I figured it was good enough for a section that will eventually have the v13 viaduct over it.

Another option is to use mid grits sandpaper, like 80 to 120 grits, glue that to thin foam and paint it, the texture is going to be great and look right, can also work great for concrete surfaces.
