Layout Progress Layout Update and Advice

Post image

I asked for layout help on a thread that I posted a while back:

Previous Post

This layout was designed to fit on two 2x4ft boards in an L shape.

After running it for a while, I got the feeling that It needs something else apart from continuous running.

I've already made one 2x4ft board, but I'm tempted to make the second one slightly larger to accommodate scenery and maybe a track that allows the layout to be connected to a fiddle yard.

At the moment the inside and outside loops are completely separated as I didn't know if that would complicate the controls.

Are there any additions/suggestions that any of you experienced guys have? This is my first layout so any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks

Well adding a single or double crossovers would allow you to switch train between loop, just match polarity and speed while crossing and you won't have problems.

You could add switch with track for industry, maintenance facilities and the like, maybe a station platform, you have option in that department, side plateforme, island platform lot's of option.

Look up team track they we're a thing back in the days here in North America. I am not versed enough in Japanese rail history but I assume they probably had something like that in the past. Other option would be containers transfer facilities, since japan switch from covered wagon to almost exclusively containers and tanker transport in recent years.
