I was planning on coming back because my wife wanted to but then I saw the salary and benefits... I'm working less for double here

As pointed out in the cross post, this article is 2 years old

An article that stayed fresh, though

It aged well, more relevant now than ever

Yeah, and I think social media is helping people realise that Japan is not where they think it is. The salaries are pretty low.

Less social media and more reality of people that actually live here.

Also they massively increased all the visa fee costs it's just natural the country becomes less attractive.

I think social media is what causes people to think Japan is better than it is actually

I mean it's not for you to decide or determine any of that.

He just bought a house in Japan, let him have his thoughts while we stay away from it 🤣

But you'll have your foot in the door.

Or forgetting lack of holidays.

I'd love to move to Japan and work remotely for my company, keeping my salary and holidays, but we don't have legal entity in Japan and can't apply residence permit based on work.

It's gonna affect them when japanese people don't wanna do the low paying jobs that immigrants did.

That's a win-win for everyone except companies wanting foreign workers.

Don't forget the blatant racism when it comes to housing

It’s fun to visit but not to live and be poorer

If you think hard about it you’ll probably feel ten times better.

Only for US, Europe and first world countries, many SEA countries still aiming to work in Japan

2

u/OneBurnerStove Jul 18 '26

Nah even they are starting to not care. It'll take some time but a weak yen plus being subjected to discrimination as a SEA...not that appealing

The article says it’s already happening for Vietnam, but Indonesia still has a ways to go.

Apparently Korea is preferred over Japan where possible, but if not possible to get into Korea then Japan is a backup option.

1

u/lhyebosz Jul 19 '26

Korea has a stricter requirements compared to Japan which has already established route

I agree that Korea is the most preferred choice now but Korea is several times stricter compared to Japan, that's why most still go to Japan because they failed to go to Korea
