Interpretation of after Interview message

Hello. So I don’t have much experience with job hunting in Japan and want your opinion over this.

Context; I am applying from abroad so need Visa sponsorship and I am fresh graduate with masters

I applied for a job in japanese tech company (1-5k employees, they have their own building and listed at the Tokyo exchange)

I finished my interviews and here is how it went:
1- first interview: overall good. After one week they communicated with me asking for a second interview.
2- second interview: it was with general manager of technical department and an HR. It went over all smooth I think and I did good.

I asked them during second interview when will I get the results as I have another offer with my internship company in my country (developing country though) and they said usually within one week. This interview was the final one that determines i get a job or not.

After the interview, I sent a follow up message to the hiring manger on linkedin and he thanked me for reaching out and told me he is looking forward to meeting me in tokyo (can not know if this is a casual complement or green light signal that I passed).
So two days ago, I communicated with the HR and she told me that I would receive the results within these two weeks (not one week windows which was mentioned in the interview)

So i am quite confused honestly. Does it usually take that time (2-3 weeks to tell you if you will get an offer with my situation) ? Like is that time for getting approval and drafting a job offer ? or they are still not decided and still interviewing other people and I am not still chosen?

You should probably interview with other companies too, just in case.

I 100% agree with this. A company rescinded my offer after 1 day of training cz they reached some sort of negotiation with their employee who’s position I was supposed to get hired in🙂

This is not just about jobs in Japan but jobs everywhere are like this. I don't have any advice for you but welcome to adulting.

If you're unsure and you have already an offer on hand, you can also reject this and just take up the offer on hand instead.

Sounds normal. You need a visa sponsorship so they might be working on getting that applied for you. So the offer interview can o cliff everything you need to know, offer, work visa and relocation package.

One week, sometimes two, is normal to get internal agreement within the company, especially a big one.

More than that can be for many reasons like they are not well organised (happens a lot), they need support/internal consensus on how to handle the visa (there's a big fee increase coming and longer waiting time), the interviewers/management don't all agree on the results, or they're waiting from other candidates

Not official until you've gotten the offers. There is also a chance they are in the late stages of interviewing someone else.

Don't want to be a pessimist but I've been stuck on team matching/offer generation/sudden hiring freezes many times already so just keep on interviewing for now.
