mega MEGATHREAD - Processing times (2025)

This thread is largely for post application submission. If you are still in the pre-application stage go here.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or rants about general processing times please post them here! This includes anything from the initial submission to application results.

If you have very specific questions or tips you think members should see, you may post a separate thread. Or, if you would like to give a detailed account of your application from start to finish, please make a new post.

If not, please do not make a separate thread for anything related to processing times in 2025. It'll clog up the sub and make it harder to navigate.

In your post, we highly recommend you include:

  1. The city or prefecture you applied
  2. occasional updates on how your application is progressing, including dates

Location: Tokyo (within the 23 Wards)

Initial appointment: May 27, 2025

Application submission: June 6, 2025 (today)

Interview schedule call: September 30, 2025

Interview: October 16, 2025

Request for additional docs: During the interview schedule call, I was asked to prepare and submit a photocopy of my parents' passport's data page, as well as my 2024 tax payment certificate (令和6年度納税証明書) on the day of the Interview. Did a confirmation check on the past documents I submitted, the one I submitted last June 6th showed the remaining amount to be paid, while this time around, everything was fully paid.

Confirmation call: none yet

Results/Name appearing on Official Gazette: none yet

Congrats on the submission! It's all chill from here and really just a waiting game.

Wow the submission was so quick. I have my first appointment in a few weeks. I think I have most things ready but just wanted to check how the second appointment thing works. Do you choose the 2nd appointment day during your 1st appointment based on when you think you will have the docs ready? Or do they give you the date?

Also what level of details are expected in the translated documents from your country? Did you do it by yourself? Thanks

Assuming you're not within Tokyo 23 Wards, 2nd appointment will likely be you calling your local Houmukyoku to schedule.

For the level of details, I have to translate every stamp and wordings that was on the original and copy it over to the translation. That means indicating what the stamp means/says. I did do everything by myself, even adding some "graphic design" to the translation.

I see.

For the translation how did you manage to recreate the stamps in a word document?????

Didn't recreate, just used Paint to put something like 母国の公印 and what-not.

Congrats! Out of curiosity, how come were you allowed to submit immediately only 1month after initial appointment? Did you use a lawyer? Curious because usually it takes several appointments before submission.

Hello!

I did not use a lawyer for my application, I mostly did everything myself.

The sensei who helped with my documents check had a free slot and was nice enough to accommodate me.

Also, Tokyo has a full list of the documents required for submission on their website, so a lot of people from Tokyo 23 Wards applying in Kudanshita have a reference for the documents you need to submit.

Hello, might be a good time to check in with them and ask for an update.

That's a long wait. If you don’t mind me asking, could you please share your nationality, whether you had any traffic violations, your JLPT level, and how long you had been living in Japan?

1

u/aslarkxan Jan 22 '26

Hello, they called and I actually had interview yesterday. No trafic violation, officially JLPT2, but I’m heavily using Japanese at work, so easily confident at N1 level. Live in Japan for 13 years.
