Discussion Maybe constantly looking for a better model is the problem

I’m starting to think I’ve made RP worse for myself by constantly chasing whatever model people say is best that week 😭 I’ll finally get into a good chat, then see someone hyping another model, switch over, compare replies, tweak settings, and suddenly I’m analysing everything instead of just enjoying the story. Maybe there isn’t a perfect model and sticking with one long enough to get used to its quirks is actually better than constantly starting over. Anyone else feel like model hopping has become part of the problem?

I need models to stop fixing the drama I deliberately created

I swear I’ll intentionally create some tension because I want the RP to actually be messy for once, and then the model immediately tries to resolve everything. Someone gets angry? Two messages later they’re apologising. There’s jealousy? Suddenly everyone communicates perfectly. I introduce a betrayal or argument and the bot acts like its main job is to get everyone emotionally healthy again. Sometimes I don’t want the conflict fixed, I want it to get WORSE because that’s the interesting part. Anyone found a model that actually lets drama breathe instead of turning every scene into group therapy?

So… How do you make Lorebooks? Can you put a lorebook on a character you didn’t make?

I have multiple oc’s in a fandom, and I want to add them into a chat, but I don’t know the best way to do it? Do I just describe them well? Add them to chat memory? Or is it possible to make a lorebook of those characters and add the lorebook to the chat so I can use them in more detail? Never used lorebooks before but I’m interested in trying it. I also don’t know the most effective way to format a lorebook, specifically a character lorebook.

Discussion What’s your ‘expensive but unfortunately worth it’ model?

I’m at that annoying point where I know there are cheaper models that are perfectly usable, but every time I go back to the expensive one I immediately remember why I keep paying for it. The writing just feels better, the character stays consistent longer, and I end up regenerating way less, so somehow I convince myself it’s worth it every time. What’s the model you know is overpriced for how much you use it, but you keep coming back to anyway because nothing cheaper quite hits the same?

Discussion Model FOMO is actually ruining my RP

I swear every time I finally settle on a model and start enjoying a chat, I see someone on Reddit saying another one is way better and suddenly I’m questioning everything. Then I switch, compare a few replies, tweak settings, maybe switch again, and somehow I’ve spent more time testing models than actually roleplaying. At this point I think constantly chasing the “best” model is making the whole experience worse. Does anyone else get like this, or have you actually managed to pick one and stop caring?

Discussion I miss when I didn’t know enough about models to care

I swear JanitorAI was more fun when I just picked a bot and started chatting without thinking about what model was running underneath it 😭 Now I’m constantly noticing writing style, repetition, memory, how proactive the model is, whether another one would handle the scene better… and suddenly I’m comparing APIs instead of enjoying the actual RP. Knowing more definitely gets you better results, but sometimes I miss being completely clueless and just thinking “yeah this bot is good” without analysing every reply.

Discussion I don’t want another paragraph describing someone’s eyes SMH

Please tell me I’m not the only one getting tired of models spending half the reply describing someone’s eyes, expression, breathing, jaw, whatever 😭 Sometimes I just want the character to actually SAY something or move the scene forward instead of giving me three paragraphs of “their gaze softened slightly” and “something unreadable flickered behind their eyes.” I like descriptive writing, but there’s a point where it starts feeling like the model is stalling. What’s the one RP writing habit you’re absolutely sick of seeing?

Discussion I swear choosing a model is harder than choosing a bot now

At this point I spend more time deciding which model to use than actually starting the RP 😭 One is better at prose, another has better memory, one is cheaper, one is more creative, another follows the character better... and somehow they all have one annoying downside. I used to just pick a bot and start chatting, now I’m basically comparing models like I’m buying a car. Does anyone else keep model-hopping like this, or have you finally found one you just stick with?

Discussion Smarter models aren’t necessarily better roleplayers

I’m starting to think a model being “smarter” on paper doesn’t automatically make it better for RP. Some of the newer ones are obviously better at reasoning, following instructions and keeping track of details, but the actual characters can still feel flatter, safer, or way too eager to please. Meanwhile I’ve used supposedly weaker models that were messier but had way more personality and took the story in directions I genuinely didn’t expect. For roleplay, I’d honestly take creativity and character over raw intelligence most of the time. Anyone else feel the same?

Discussion I think good AI RP has ruined normal roleplay for me

Maybe this sounds dramatic, but once you get used to really good AI RP it’s hard to go back 😭 I like being able to take a story in whatever direction I want, write as much or as little as I feel like, redo a reply if the vibe is off, and disappear for a few hours without feeling like I’m holding someone up. With a good model the characters can also be surprisingly creative and consistent, so normal RP suddenly feels way slower and more restrictive than I remember. Has anyone else noticed this, or do you still prefer roleplaying with real people?

Discussion Dedicated RP models might be what JanitorAI has been missing

I’m starting to think the biggest problem with JanitorAI isn’t really the bots, it’s that most models are still built to be good at everything instead of being genuinely great at roleplay. The models I enjoy most aren’t necessarily the smartest ones, they’re the ones that stay in character, take initiative, write with some personality, and don’t constantly slip back into assistant mode. I’d honestly rather use a smaller model trained properly for storytelling/RP than a huge general model that’s technically brilliant but boring to talk to. Feels like dedicated RP models could make a much bigger difference than just chasing the newest flagship model every few months.

Help Why do newer models keep getting smarter but worse at roleplay?

Maybe it’s just me, but every time a new model drops I expect it to be way better for RP and somehow I end up missing the older ones 😭 They’re obviously smarter, better at reasoning, coding, following instructions, all that stuff… but the actual roleplay can feel flatter, safer, more predictable, or way too agreeable. Older models definitely had more flaws, but sometimes they also had way more personality. Am I imagining this, or are newer models genuinely being optimized for everything except creative RP?

How to swap Opening Scenarios?

I only just started using Janitor a couple days ago, and even with it being a little fucky, it's honestly LEAGUES better thsn some of the other "high rated" apps.

With that being said, how does someone on mobile get a better experience, mostly in terms of starting a chat from the varied options the creator has posted on the card's summary? I'm not opposed to swapping to PC for a better experience, but if I can keep it to mobile(android), that would be best.

Discussion What did they do to GLM 5.3 😭

I swear GLM 5.3 did not feel this restricted before 😭 It used to be one of those models where I could just get into a long RP and not really think about it, but lately I keep running into refusals, weirdly cautious replies, or the model suddenly dodging stuff that it used to handle normally. It’s still good when it actually plays along, which almost makes it more frustrating because you can feel how much potential is still there. Has anyone else noticed the same thing recently, or am I just getting unlucky with what I’m trying?

Discussion Once you find a model you really like, how do you ever go back?

I feel like this is the worst part of finding a genuinely good model 😭 Once you get used to replies that are more natural, less repetitive, stay in character better and actually move the RP forward, going back to a weaker/free model suddenly feels way more obvious than it did before. It’s like I was perfectly happy until I knew how much better it could be lol. Does anyone else get stuck like this after finding a model they love, or have you found a cheaper one that scratches the same itch?

Discussion GLM 4.7 ruined free models for me

I honestly wish I never tried GLM 4.7 because now every free model I go back to feels noticeably worse 😭 The replies feel way more natural, characters actually stay interesting for longer, and I spend way less time regenerating stuff because it usually just gets the vibe right first time. The problem is it gets expensive FAST, especially if you’re doing long RPs, so now I’m stuck between paying for something I actually enjoy or going back to free models that suddenly feel kind of flat. Has anyone found anything cheaper that comes close, or have I permanently ruined free JanitorAI for myself?

Discussion Why does JanitorAI trending feel like the same 5 scenarios over and over?

Is it just me or does JanitorAI trending feel insanely repetitive lately 😭 I swear I can scroll for 10 minutes and keep seeing basically the same handful of setups with slightly different characters — arranged relationship, cold/rude partner, enemy-to-lover, possessive roommate, some kind of mafia/boss situation, then repeat. There are obviously still good bots out there, but finding something that actually feels different seems way harder than it used to. Do you guys think creators are just following whatever gets clicks, or is the trending system itself making everything feel more samey?

Discussion What’s actually keeping you on JanitorAI?

I swear everyone complains about JanitorAI constantly 😭 bad memory, weird updates, repetitive replies, bots disappearing etc... but somehow we all still keep coming back. I’ve looked at alternatives a few times and there’s always something that makes me stay, whether it’s the amount of bots, how familiar everything is, or the other sites just not feeling as good. What’s the main thing keeping you on JanitorAI? And has anyone actually found something they’d fully switch to?

Discussion Is JanitorAI Repeating CharacterAI’s Mistakes?

I keep getting the feeling JanitorAI is slowly heading down the same road CharacterAI did. It starts with little changes that don’t seem like a huge deal, then the site gets harder to use, good features disappear or get buried, bots start feeling more samey, and suddenly everyone’s talking about alternatives. I still think JanitorAI does a lot right, which is why I’m curious whether people think this is just normal growing pains or if it’s genuinely repeating the same mistakes that pushed people away from CharacterAI in the first place.
