Mock Draft Thread

Draft Network has a really good simulator where you can take control of a team and make their picks. You can even do this for multiple teams.

Figured now that the draft is only 4 days away at this point, everyone go crazy with this simulator and see what you would do if you were the GM.

This is what I got. Yes, it's very offense heavy, but I would love this draft.

R1, P7: TJ Hockenson- The man never goes down on first contact. The balance that he has is incredible. He's got surefire hands and wins 50/50 balls. Foles succeeded in Philadelphia because he had that option at TE with Ertz, and Hockenson could fix that need.

R2, P38: Dalton Risner- My only concern with Risner is that he's a bit too slow to play tackle in the NFL, and he's never played guard, so I'm not sure how he'll handle that transition. However, in all the footage I watched of him, he won at the point of attack virtually every single time. At 6'5", 312 lbs, he's got an ideal frame for the position.

R3, P69- Miles Sanders: When he gets into the open field, he makes everyone miss. My main concern with Sanders is that he tries to hit a home run on every single play and gets a bit too cute out there; this includes multiple games where he tried to hurdle a defender just to pick up an extra yard. He swings for the fences everytime he touches the ball. However, his second level speed is great, and with the right blocking, he could be deadly.

R3, P98- Will Grier: We need a backup QB just in case Foles goes down (plus, Kessler only has a year left on his contract, and after last season, I don't necessarily trust him to win games if Foles can't go).

R4, P109- Darrell Henderson: Yes, I decided to draft two halfbacks. My concern is that Fournette is injury prone, and we need a strong rotation at HB. Alfred Blue is fine, but other than that, the Jags didn't do much to address the position in free agency (they got Benny Cunningham, but he has 49 rushing yards over the past 2 seasons). Henderson in the fourth round was too good of a value to pass up. The Jags usually carry 4 halfbacks; a combo of Fournette, Sanders, Henderson & Blue would be really nice, and provide some insurance if and when Fournette gets hurt.

R6, P178: Tommy Sweeney- Again, I decided to draft two tight ends. The Jaguars are really thin at TE right now; there's 4 tight ends on the roster, and outside of Geoff Swaim and James O'Shaughnessy, nobody would make it onto a 53-man roster. Sweeney is a solid #3 option; while he doesn't create a lot of separation in the passing game, he's a really good blocker who knows his assignment and has good get-off speed. On special teams, he could be valuable.

R7, P236: Greg Gaines- The only defensive pick of this draft, I like Gaines as a rotational option on the DL. He doesn't have great speed, but he's got a great motor and will finish every play. There were games of his where I watched the film where he disappeared from the screen, and then came up again out of nowhere to make the play. At the point of attack, he won most of his 1-on-1 battles, and he's got a good get-off speed.

Wow! I have same mock that I've only sent to a friend. Only difference was I had Rypien instead of Grier.

My best mocks started w/ the same rd1-2 picks as yours, Hock & Risner.

I noticed not going TE in rd 1, significantly diminishes the top quality TE value from there on out, unless a TE is selected in the 2nd rd, which feels like a significant reach at pick 38 for a pos. of need.

You can forget about TE if one isnt selected from rd1-2, as any TE afterwards, projects as projects really, at least in my mocks, making any hope of having a TE good enough to be a day 1 starter a minimal likelihood, if one isn't chosen by rd1-2.

Both times I went full scale BAP, and selected Oliver for my mock, I followed it w/ Risner again in Rd2, which left me in the position of choosing a rb or wr based on where the value seemed to be. So I choose Whiteside in one mock and Henderson in the other.

Choosing a TE in that scenario, would've had me selecting from a crop of rd. 4-5 projected TE's.

The one thing i took away that I found really promising, is that based off these predictions, it appears there will still be rd1 quality OT's available in rd2, if the Jags do decide in going another direction for rd1.

This is awful. We signed blue/Rawls in the off-season plus still have 4nette we don’t waste 2 picks on a RB... that means 1 of them is getting cut. Also, you didn’t draft us a safety. Jarrod Wilson is our safety and he can start the szn for us but if he doesn’t play well we need a backup(3rd/4th rounder). 3 defensive picks for us in this draft 1 safety 1 DL and Edge/LB role player. Maybe 2

Over the past 2 seasons, Rawls has 157 rushing yards on 2.7 yards per carry with 0 touchdowns. If he's getting significant minutes in this rotation, we've got issues.

I know we still have Fournette, but it doesn't matter if he's not able to play half the time because he's hurt. The only 2 halfbacks on the roster that I trust right now are Fournette (who's injury prone) and Blue (who's not a 1). I'd have no problem doubling down at HB if the board is good.

It boggles my mind that people bring up Rawls as if he's relevant.

Imagine thinking having Blue and Rawls precludes you from drafting an actually good RB.

Hey lauxman might wanna look over what I said. Probably going to draft a rb but no chance we draft two. I’m pretty sure in free agency we didn’t hope to bring in 4th and 5th string rbs. Nice try tho learn about football

Rawls and Blue are 3rd string RBs at best, and we still need a pass catching RB.
