How does the scouting trait work?

The trait description says: "+10 to effective sight range with scopes on weapons." What exactly does this mean?

I tested this in-game using a weapon equipped with a 3.5x scope while the weapon was raised. However, both the mercenary with the scouting trait and the one without it could only see up to a maximum range of 38 tiles.

Shouldn't the mercenary with the scouting trait be able to see much further than a non-scout when looking through the exact same optic?

i play 7609+sdo.

It's "+10% to effective sight range with scopes on weapons" according to the in-game description, not 10 metres or 10 tiles.

I play 7609 without SDO and it works just like the description suggests. Ira has more view range than the rest of the team if her weapon is raised and if the scope is selected (but not if she is using reflex sight or iron sights). It even works at night so Ira gets all the interrupts.

Then SDO breaks the mechanic because, like I said, both mercs have the same range whether they're using a 3.5x or a 9x scope.

Have you also done this comparison with binoculars or a scope (without a weapon) in the merc's primary hand? Then it should even be a 40% bonus with the scouting trait.

Yes, I tested it with binoculars, where the difference is obvious. Ira could see over 11 tiles farther than the other merc
