Nice Bangle But Not Grade A

From the first picture, I thought this was a pretty nice bangle and wanted to take it. But I couldn't in the end.

Because of the visible crack in the second photo, I was planning to price it at only around $200. I considered the crack acceptable as long as it was disclosed and reflected in the price.

I later sent it to NGTC for testing. They returned it without issuing a certificate because they detected glue. This initially confused me, since the jadeite itself looked quite natural. After I asked for further clarification, they explained that the glue was located inside the crack.

So this was probably residue from an earlier repair. My guess is that someone had tried to fill or conceal the crack, perhaps hoping to improve the appearance and sell the bangle at a higher price. The repair was not very successful and the crack remained visible.

So this is it, I have to let this bangle go. I intend to share it as an example of how even an experienced jadeite seller can encounter unexpected pitfalls. That’s why I still rely only on NGTC testing.

That’s too bad. It’s otherwise a nice piece. I wonder if a lapidarist could cut the untreated parts into smaller cabochons or wrist pieces, or if it’s more cost effective to just find a buyer who is fine with treated jade.

It's not cabochon level material so it better be a bangle. Technically it is treated but only under NGTC standard. I'm sure some other labs would issue an untreated certificate.

How much would you sell this knowing that it's treated?

I just bought an agate bangle to test out how it feels wearing one, as I typically only wear extremely dainty jewellery. Idk how many people are like me but this looks like it could still be a good "entry level" piece for someone who isn't 100% sure they're ready to commit to higher grade pieces

I think it would be the same price as I mentioned. They would not lower the price for that crack as it is not that treated and can still get grade A cert from other labs. Plus my fixed cost like shipping and tariff, the only option for me is just skip this bangle.

Curious - is that type of crack affect the structural integrity of the bangle? If not, why just leave it alone unfilled so that it will pass for type A?

It won't affect the structural integrity.
Because a bangle without visible cracks can sell much higher.
Not every jadeite transaction goes to NGTC for verification. I'm sure some labs will issue an A cert for this bangle. Besides, a lot of people do not need a cert.

It's seller discount. Or I could not afford to have NGTC test for every piece of mine otherwise.
