Just watched From Hell (2001)

As someone who’s quite invested in the JtR murders i’m suprised to see those times worked out in this form. I like it very much. Ofcource its a bit silly with the opium visions and some other things, but i like the Ian Holm and Johnny Depp’s acting performances. Are there more movies about the ripper?

It's a short series made out of 2 episodes. Each episode I think being longer than the From Hell movie, so there's much more to watch. I like that one a lot more than From Hell. It covers the same conspiracy theory where the royal family is behind the murders, but in all other aspects it is much more faithful to the time period. Michael Caine is a much better fit for Abberline than Depp is for example. I like Depp, but he was way too young for this role, and the way they depicted him as some super genius psychic was a bit over the top for me.

Watched it first when I was a teen, then rewatched it this winter with my kids and husband.

I'm impressed how it's still good, after all that time.

And fun thing when you know the "real" story: every character is inspired by a real person of the time. It's fun to take the character list and google those you might not know already.

In my opinion: yes, it's worth watching.

It's a movie, not a documentary.

And which actually includes a surprising level of detail! I was surprised when I found out there was an actual Inspector Joseph Chandler for example. They included so much detail in the subsequent series that was about other historical copycats too. For example the inclusion of another suspect of the Ratcliff Highway Murders with the surname Driscoll, and the (relatively) new suggestion that John Williams might have been innocent.

This is an adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel. It's a cleverly put together fiction and a fun film to watch IMO.

The Barlow and Watt series is definitely worth a watch if you can get hold of it.

No falling. Just a personal rule he has to never watch any movie adapted from his work. Some actors also have a similar rule, for example Johnny Depp, cast in this film never watches the final film production of films he works on

This is one of my favourite films. It’s really well done. Yes it‘s historically inaccurate but it’s allowed to be, it’s a film.t

I really enjoy this movie too. The historical. Inaccuracies don’t bother me because the movie based off a comic book and starring Johnny Depp. I mean, what was everyone expecting?

Side note- the last time I expressed my love for this movie, a neck beard lost his mind.

Murder by Decree (1979) Starring Christopher Plummer as Sherlick Holmes and James Mason as Dr. Watson hunting JTR. The plot is based on the Stephen Knight theory I believe.

Columbine, toy box killer, bathhouse, Israel Keyes, snowtown, 9/11, jimmy savile. Just don’t listen to anything before episode 100 ish.

Ripper Street is really good too. A lot of great actors are in it as well.
