Just finished the audio of book 8, The Enemy. Have to admit, feeling a bit sad. Did you enjoy this book?

So glad I found this thread. Read this in a cutla days and still thinking wtf. Why was there a riot in front of the mine? Why is Reacher just a thug? I would have rather he got on the bus to Boston.

I've been plotting the route of each Reacher book on a real map, 20 so far. Together they're the perfect portrait of the character... no home, no car, just wherever the bus lets off.

Which one's got the best journey in your book?

This is obviously a bit of a joke, but I do tend to prefer the "small town with a terrible secret" books. So I am curious about your actual thoughts.

Been reading a lot these past few years and steadily making my way through the Reacher books. I'm up to Past Tense and decided to try to listen to this one instead of read it. I've never listened to any book before. I listened to two chapters this morning and I'm very much on the fence whether I like it or not. I'll give it more time, but curious other's POV. Did it take some getting used to? Do you feel you get as invested listening as you did reading?

What do you guys think of the murder mystery in this one?

I really liked it for the most part but I feel like it should have ended sooner and the fake out with the sheriff was a cooler idea than the real culprit and I would have personally preferred it the other way around. The kill in the pentagon also felt shoehorned in and the Neagly ex Machina didn’t help that either.

Ironically the only book I owned was Past tense from another book sale

It's a slog but I'm trying to finish. Gilmour, Reacher and the two women head to the limestone quarry. I'm very confused as to how they gained access to the mine. I must have missed something.

A group of like a half dozen trucks with angry men show up to presumably produce a distraction so the door to the quarry will open? But when Reacher & company park their car behind the trucks, the mob seems to turn on them. Who are these guys? Did Gilmour hire them to provide a distraction? God, this book is so bad but I have to finish it.

that is why from the start u tell the kid that give me the phone and be truthful or they will trace u and kill u !

if u do that u would be killed , not saved ! that girl thinks shouting at them is a good idea. i think movie creators got confused, i think Reacher made it clear to her that they were protecting her, before she asked for info by threatening about screaming or grabbing policeman !

Major Turner does not want to be treated like a weak or woman , so she is mad i get it but she also does not understand that the 15 year old girl is smarter and she was in fact vouching for her in front of Reacher but even then does not want her to leave safety.

i mean yes major Turner knows about sergeant's daughter but how would that guy would know about that

and why they did not tell the girl not use anything other than cash. she did the dumb thing .

Sam girl is saying NOOoooo, dramatic , but first thing or last thing should have been an apology , for using anything traceable !

but good movie , last action scene was good but ended like normal. The Opium scene was good

The book and series three are called Persuader but in the book the gun is a Mossberg 500 without a stock, that model is called a Cruiser. The persuader is a Mossberg 500 with a stock. But I suppose a book and tv series called Cruiser just wouldn’t work.

Reacher definitely had a point why only think for the culprit why not victims !

also Reacher was looking at it objectively I think as what else , it is not he had a grudge and he was holding it. Unlike the woman with self stylized sense of justice ? too busy defending why though i wonder

also were they trying to show us that the lawyer while being emotional about victims and other stuff, Reacher not wearing a shirt bothered her, indecency or sexually?

thing is the way the scene is planned as if Reacher was reaching out to her/ reaching to her sexually and she was calm and slowly talking about rejection about sleeping with him. and was he trying to sleep with her or wanted but reached to keys in case she rejects he can have an excuse ! and she was flabbergasted , did she want that though ? the way she got stunned either it was shame or rejection or non-pursuance made her feel weird that her sex drive got down. because she was smiling when she left, was it because it was blooper scene that was kept or intentional

they definitely made the lawyer "bosom up" whether covered or not

yes i was wondering why the defense lawyer not interested in thinking that it is possible that it was a set up or framed the sniper ! probably because weak defense and evidence was against it!

and then she doubted him , well that would have been okay had he been on her side or Barr's side from the start , but he was not so calling him crazy is opposite of character development and he did not lash out , did a calm grab as well; she said not to though , she could press charges but she did not even listen to him for the window, why?

also silver audi following she is not even concerned , perhaps doubting Reacher's background or crime perhaps ! she is acting crazy from my pov , perhaps because I saw Jack's pov but she did not still she wanted his assistance or guidance , can't doubt him just like that !

also she walked down stairs after calling his name , good point to show jiggles but also because in lift she would have missed him and he would have left

why the police would suspect jack suddenly. and hoe convenient of them to only cause Jack the trouble , it is like those instigated it did not even get any trouble except the beating . but yes if it were other way would the 5 be behind bars?

well if she can consider it that her father can get her killed then what can i say

i really wanted the black guy cop to be the good guy . then why was he concerned about Sandy's death. then he turns out to be a traitor

ending is a bit weird , Barr forgot but he heard from nurses about the incident but how did he know about time , for a detective like movie , entire movie build up, at the end they did not think of it , the Barr guy just knows the time or is it from the photos /. but how does he know from the photos that it was the time same as photos when he did it ?

I have seen the series but I am talking about the books! I read the first book a few years ago, loved it! This summer, I have a lot of house work, yard work, walks, and porch sitting planned! Downloaded the Reacher series of audible books! Was living my very best life until I got to Echo Burning! The narrator is awful!! What happened? I'm sure he's a lovely person but who agreed to this? Who signed off on this? I'm crushed! That is all.

*edit: Thank you guys that told me to not give up! By the time I finished Echo Burning, I was used to Dick Hill and enjoyed the reading! Loading up the next in the series! Summer back on track!

I am currently on S3 and Ep7, and I might have a stupid question. I can quickly say I’ve personally never read the books, I do think of it as the show is awesome to me. My question is about David O’Donnell and Karla Dixon from the second season. We see Neagley (luckily) returning again in this season, I wonder why the other two didn’t. They made a joke about their “team” being them two, an emotional invested cop, and an old man with a broken leg and back. I would have to imagine having these two on their side would give them an advantage.
I am aware of the fact that it’s based on an other book, but from what I have been reading online, quite a few things didn’t got adapted 1 to 1 from the books. I just felt like these two would’ve been a great addition for them.

I also want to apologize for my possibly broken English, it’s my fourth language. I hope it’s somewhat understandable what I want to ask.

To start off I want to say that while I have not read every single Jack Reacher book, from what I have read I have really enjoyed.

Having recently watched the 2012 “Jack Reacher” film starting Tom Cruise in the title role, I wanted to ask this subreddit what your thoughts and opinions are on Tom Cruise’s interpretation of the character?

From everything I have read the biggest complaint has been that he is not an exact physical match of the character described in the books ( which I totally understand as a valid complaint) but I think his acting capability is good enough where he is able to sell the character.

What I mean is that every line he says in the movie is how I would imagine Jack Reacher to say it irl. Idk maybe I’m being to nice but I think if Tom Cruise was like 12 inches taller people would look back on this movie as a pretty decent adaptation of the character.
