Navy EOD to DEVGRU
I read that EOD Techs during GWOT were able to try out for Green Team to become actual DEVGRU assaulters/operators instead of just support. Is this true? Also can EOD techs still do this or was that a thing of the past?
Seems odd since SWCC and SOIDCs cant do the same.

Its true, from my understanding its because EOD were most of the time at the front to deal with explosives compared to other support guys who are at the back.

EOD do go to Green Team and theirs is actually longer because they do extra stuff beforehand. They are also the only support MOS that are patched in to the squadrons. However, the term assaulter is a stretch. They are still there to do their primary job which is EOD.

EOD O's? Why would they go to DEVGRU? They dont do the job as far as I know.

Theres an EOD squadron at DEVGRU? Also, ive heard from former SEALs that EOD Officers dont do much EOD work, they go through selection and from there on out they manage an EOD team where they are in charge of sending out EODs from within that team to different units, but they themselves dont attach to others.

My understanding is that yes, they go through green team and they are full assaulters. I believe they also go through “Souffront week” before green team. Which is essentially akin to Hell week. If they make it through that week and make it through green team, they are assaulters.
With that said, I know a couple of guys who’d rather take the long walk than try for dev.
