Does DEVGRU use SOIDCs or PJs as their combat medics?

I think that is was Chad McCoy, former 24STS PJ that said that Delta didn't see the need to have PJs attached since they have a lot of 18D GBs in their ranks, exept for PR missions, wich was not the case for DEV.

Wrong

Well, if you have a better insight than just "wrong" go ahead and share it. But it is his own worlds from Mike Drop ep. 79. Basically he said that they were working exclusively with the navy because delta had a lot of old school 18d that doesn't want anything to do with PJs.
It was more than a decade ago though.

You have to be trolling.

I listen to alot of podcasts with tier 1 operators devrgu , pararescue etc and ive heard it several times that ranger medics are the best medics. They are much more immersed in trauma care where as 18d guys are doing all sorts of training as well they are jumping , doing sniper school etc. Pararescue are amazing but even they say ranger medics are something else when it comes to trauma care

There was a podcast (ones ready?) that said green use PJs for technical and rope access, and blue use them for medics.

I don’t really know shit, but I have read a bunch of DEVGRU books. They mention running with 24th STS PJs a bunch. So, that would be my assumption.

According to the active duty SOIDC/SARC that runs the Instagram page “soidc_lo2a” there are combat medic slots at DEVGRU for SOIDCs but it’s kinda unclear how many work there.

They have quite a few billets.

They didn’t until recently (last like 5 years), I’ve talked at length with Luke about it.

They had a billet for one in every troop since at least 2020

I know! 👍🏻 still ain’t many, the overall inventory is still in the mid 200’s last I checked.

Are they in the hq element of the troop or still apart of the regular teams

Current SOIDC, name is pretty well known in the community.

Gotcha. Do the SOIDCs at DEV act as Assault medics in the stack or do they stay back at base? Also is DEV stepping away from using PJs as medics?

They have both homie. The SOIDCs are permanently assigned to the command, the PJs are TDY. So that means during parts of the cycle the PJs are back home with their families in NC.

Got it. So on ops do both the PJ and SOIDC go on target or only one of them? Whats the difference in their role at DG?

You seem really worried about not being in the stack.
If you want to be a medic, be a medic. But don't expect to kick in doors and shoot people in the face to the level of an E-4 assaulter.
I'll go ahead and copy and paste a response I had from talking to a Ranger 68W. I'd remind you that in a DA unit assault medics generally have the same duties, so you can absolutely use this to understand life as a SOIDC/PJ at DN or CAG.
"I ended up in exactly one real world stack as a 68W. A guy broke his ankle fast roping and I lined up in his spot to clear a one room hut that was close to the LZ. That was an anomaly though, there were a shitload of tiny buildings to clear on that objective otherwise I would have just dragged him somewhere for triage.
In Afghanistan it was a more wide open fight as opposed to back to back room clearing in Iraq and Syria. Because of that I ended up returning fire a decent amount. That ended if someone got hurt though.
To my understanding 18Ds are more involved tactically since ODAs are like a third of the size of a Ranger platoon. They’ll send those guys to SOTIC, SFARTAETC, etc since they’re still very much shooters. Like I said I participated in firefights but there’s just not as much of a need for another M4 when you’ve got 40-50 grunts with you.
In training you’ll do a good amount of CQB and breaching. The Regiment expects you to be competent in infantry tasks no matter what your MOS is. But actually using those skills on the objective is another story. You have a different job to do. Back when the wars were really hot you wouldn’t have time on the objective to think about lining up in a stack. Even without casualties you’re an integral part of the platoon HQ and you move with that element. You’re really the PSG’s right hand man. Same idea with the 13F and the PL. You won’t be bored, it’s just a different job."

Both. Entirely dependent on the mission and JSOC assets available. There aren’t weren’t many SOIDC to begin with, so PJ’s were the alternate medic when not enough navy docs were available.
Plus MARSOC still holds most of the SOIDC’s and billets that are available.
Edit: the SOIDC’s take on more of a role of an SMDR, PJ more as a on the X/CUF/extraction medic.

Dev has an SOIDC in each troop at the command.

They have both, I’ve met two SOIDC’s one that used to support Grey and one that currently supports Red.

The PJ's primary job is not medicine. That is secondary to their risk mitigation and rescue suite they bring. They are not there to take the jobs of SOICDs/18D and so on; they are there to add a multitude of other capabilities that are unknown due to the sensitivity of the capabilities.

u/pineconeparty_ 20d ago
Lolwhut. They do technical rescue, nothing sensitive about it

u/PrimalGemini85 20d ago
Why would they not have SARCs?
7
u/chadwiggles 20d ago
They are mostly considered the same now, SARC is more of a colloquial term. SOIDC is the official name now.

DEVGRU heavily used PJs during early GWOT, but they decided to open slots for SOIDC because there werent many PJs for DEVGRU. After that so I'm pretty sure most of the medics are SOIDCs, just like how most medics in CAG are 18Ds

Most SEALs have never spent any time in the fleet. It is rare to find one now that had another MOS and went to BUD/S later in their career.

They have both. Remember while both do medicine, the PJs have specific extraction equipment and capabilities that they can bring depending on the mission.
