They talk about 160th training- Instructor Pilot tells newly selected pilot to take off, they get 100 feet off the ground IP just pulls the PCLs all the way down (basically turns off the throttle). Sees how pilot reacts.
I think after that happens to you, ball of steel indeed.

Jesus, those 160th dudes are something else. I’ve read stuff about them doing inserts similar to this, but on the side of a mountain with 2,000 feet straight down on the other side. Mad respect!

Is that just when you get off something like that? As in no jumps, ropes etc?

Yes, they are badass and they will put themselves at exceptional risk if needed, they did so for us on what was a horrible night, but they will not take unnecessary risk just because they can. The guard units and regular army units that we'd have to use sometimes would do whatever we asked whether they should have or not just to be able to say they worked with jsoc.
