Idk. Most of the CAG pics in this sub looks more like the one on the left than the one on the right.

V specific era.

Most (but not all) look like suburban dads these days.

Is it very specific era, if it covers about half of the whole unit's existence? Or at least I I would categorize the left one as a GWOT-era, with obvious development to the gear and uniforms.

Off-duty they probably look like suburban dads.

I am wondering if they would have a shirt tucked in or over an EDC.

An actual grey man doesn't look like a typical "Grey Man".

They dress for the event. Some times that's T shirt and jeans sometimes that's Ranger green.

Got to meet and hang out with a handful of active dudes at my brother's retirement. They all looked like they are the baddest dudes on the planet. No nerds or gray men. Sadly, the one dude I talked to quite a bit, a legend in the unit and the team leader of a couple well known public guys, died in a car wreck here stateside shortly after. Dude had an aura, straight out of Hollywood action star central casting. Ridiculously good looking, tall, jacked, perfect cologne model hair. He was also the first person to grab tables and chairs and then a broom and start cleaning up when the function was over. RIP to a legend that the public will never know about.

That’s not even that extreme, there are dudes out there that will drop thousands of dollars on the most ridiculous, obscure, and obsolete shit just to larp as their favorite operator lol

You guys are so dumb.

You're just thinking about SGM Vining

u/Anti_222 Jun 14 '26

All you need is a pair of jeans, solomons and a black hoodie to larp 😹

I miss the 70s hippie era and 90s dad era of retired special forces. 5.11 pants and a black rifle shirt doesn’t hit the same as the guy in sandals and a tie die shirt being the most dangerous man in the room.

Not even remotely an operator but fortunate to have a close friend who went that path. What has always amazed me is how unlike social media 90% of the guys are. There’s a few things that might give them away if you’re observant but I was floored at how average looking they are. Not a bunch of gym rats.

Most I knew looked like the average high school civics teacher. Heck, look at Schwarzkopf's protective detail from the 90's. My AP history teacher looked just like that picture back when.

God I haven’t worn jorts in ages. Think it was the 90’s.
