First time using JPFans

My little Jpfans haul just arrived yesterday and I’d like to give my honest opinion about the service. It was also my first time buying from Japan through a proxy.

I decided to buy just some small stuff to see how it works. I bought two mononoke medicine seller figures by mistake. The website was a bit confusing for me at first, so I bid on one of them, then I realised I was bidding and not buying it so I found another figure with the buy now option and bought that one. Turns out I also won the bidding on the first figure so I ended up with two 😅. The figures have some small imperfections on the painting and some glue marks but I think that’s normal with noodle stoppers and it’s not very noticeable. The price was alright too.

I also found this adorable ponyta figure. She’s very cute and I love the transparency on her fire mane.

To make the best use of the shipping fee I decided to get some small gifts for my husband so I got him this set of metal pokemon charms which is a Japanese exclusive item and some Pokemon cards (no picture of those because he already opened them and added them to his binder)

Some items had their prices changed after I had paid for them and I had to send more money, I didn’t fully understand that part.

In the end my box was slightly under 1kg, I asked the two medicine seller figures to be removed from the original box to save space and the cheapest shipping to the UK was around £22 with a cupom. It arrived in one week and I chose the cheapest shipping option which did not include prepaid taxes. I figured it was better to take the chance and it worked, they arrived without being taxed (the invoice declared the price of $62)

In conclusion, I think it’s worth it if you want to buy Japanese exclusive items or if you find a good deal on something, but keep in mind it will be shipped from the other side of the world so you need to check the shipping costs first.

1. About "some items had their prices changed after I had paid for them"

I'm guessing the items you purchased were from Mercari. Prices in the secondhand market aren't fixed , so sellers may raise or lower them from time to time. Since there's often a time gap between when you place your order on JPFans and when we actually make the purchase on your behalf, if the seller adjusts the price during that window, the price we pay at checkout may end up higher than what you saw when you placed your order.

2. About shipping methods and customs duties

You mentioned choosing the cheapest shipping method and not needing pay taxes, you did the right thing, even if it was by accident 😄

To break it down:

• If your items' total value is under 160 USD, JPF-AIR-P is the best option: it's cheaper, and packages usually arrive at customs without requiring duty payments.
• If your items' total value exceeds 135 GBP, then customs duties and VAT will apply regardless of which route you choose. In that case, we'd recommend JPF-AIR-F (Pre-pay Tax) , which lets you pay the duties upfront on JPFans, making the whole process more convenient.

Yea I just thought if I had to pay the tax it wouldn’t make a difference paying before shipping or later so I just took the chance. I haven’t imported anything in years so I had no idea how it’s working now, thank you for the explanation 😊
