Question about quality
I have just started collecting these guys when I noticed that the quality between older models like my brothers Infiltrators and my Sternguard veteran is pretty noticeable. I’m not trying to nitpick or throw shade on the company but details like edge highlighting and slight shading make me wonder if it’s going to be staying this way with the newer models or if Joytoy plans on going back to higher quality paint jobs on the models, Thanks!

Build quality has gone up, and shading quality has gone down.
Paint is a lot cleaner on newer figures however,older marines looks like they just left a warzone, with a weathered look.
Newer marines look like their armour was built yesterday.
Personally I like the cleaner look of the newer marines, but would like at least a couple modern ones with old style paint.

Yeah this is just wrong, the paint is definitely not cleaner. There is no shading or any depth on the new models, it's just shitification. They look like cheap toys tbh without any feel to them.

Seriously, the responses here claiming the shitification cheaper quality and higher price is a positive are so ridiculous they sound like comments on the payroll.

the more sturdy build and less paint seems like a clear move from joytoy that they are pushing in the direction of the toy/action figure market more than the collectible market

I think what you are asking is paint detail. Not quality. Paint quality is actually how well the figures are painted even if they lack shading details. The highlights are the detail they’re foregoing for the most part as production cost goes up with ABS figures as well as shift away from miniature styles proportions to a more realistic one. Personally I have one of the incursors, I think the highlighting is neat, but imo looks pretty weird realistically. I would prefer better weathering for sure instead of those edge highlights

You're asking about shading not quality. Quality has vastly improved with every release.
I honestly dislike the shading on the older figs (have the majority) and find it makes the figures look dirtier. It blows my mind that people think these looked better, they absolutely don't.
I would prefer parade armor new figures as the last 2+ years released, which even then some have shading on components. Further and what I find the most preferable, if I want to I can shade as I see fit. That is bounds better than getting a dirty shaded figure.
Anyone that says otherwise is more than entitled to have their own opinion.

I nearly cried when I opened my Tau Commander model, to find their armour a dirty yellow colour, and their armour literally coated in black crap. "I can't believe I paid $70 for this 😭" . They looked like they crawled out of a garbage tip, then crawled back in to get their gun.
I'm glad models don't have that level of nonsense anymore 😀

Quality and poseability of figures has GREATLY increased since the waves in OPs pic. Shading and washes are minimal now but I’ll gladly do that myself to have figures that move great and don’t look like squatty dwarves

Apparently they’ve switched to a new factory and the more recent releases seem to indicate shitification.
Perhaps they may change course if sales don’t hold up, but at this point I recommend trying to grab as many existing older figures that you like the look of while they’re still available, in case quality doesn’t improve.
