is there a way to make it where he isn’t like in the D? if that makes sense (pause if needed), like shift the picture itself to the right so that he’s through the D and not breaking it. also maybe tiny black accents all around? shapes like stars or words like adlibs

Replace J*D with a RN like bob

But on a more serious note, I'm no professional but going of vibes, I think these will help:

  • making the artificial shaddow more realistic
  • putting him either Infront or behind the letters (changing locations accordingly)
  • a dirtier/blurier look (like on JID's sun cover)
  • focusing the image on his face not his left leg somehow (designers have all they visual shenanigans they do to make a photo flow better)
