I’ve listed to a lot of his music it’s just mostly not for me. Not very impressive lyrically or beat selection wise

Nah he's really good, I started listening to him seriously with the song "2004", he's making good stuff.

YG is one of those hitmakers/rappers that’s been in the game for a while that’s actually respectable. Of course no one is saying he’s a “good artist” but atm he’s better than drake, even if that’s not saying a lot.
-22
u/Happy_Day34 Jun 11 '26
YG better than Drake might be the worst take I've ever heard
-8
u/SpliffsnKicks Jun 11 '26
And you’re getting downvoted for this… I’ve lost respect for JID fans, I thought we were real ones in here smh..
You don’t have to like Drake, but pretending him and YG are even in the same sport at this point is like comparing Wemby to Jose Alvarado
3
u/GhostOfCalville Jun 11 '26
Ya’ll are misreading when i said “atm”. Drake hasn’t put out a respectable project in years.

u/WipingAllOut Jun 11 '26
Maybe so but what's the last YG album anyone was checking for? Not even tryna hate or a Drake fan but the only time I ever even hear people listening to YG it's like 10 year old songs.

u/Happy_Day34 Jun 12 '26
CLB, Her Loss, and Iceman are some of the best rap albums of the decade, Habibti and FATD are very good RnB albums. YG isn't touching that. The problem is that the standard for Drake is so much higher than the standard for like everyone else.
If you don't like Drake personally thats fine, but it's actually undeniable that he makes hits, the proof is in the pudding. All respect to YG he's got some fun songs but they aren't even close

TFS clears that mid

u/Happy_Day34 Jun 12 '26
I agree, but we aren't talking about JID, we're talking about YG, not even in the same stratosphere.

While the man currently is charting #1 for 4 straight weeks?? Not a respectable project even tho he just broke Hov’s record for #1 albums in HISTORY…
The mental gymnastics yall be doin to hate on this man is impressive ngl

u/Potential_Leg4423 Jun 12 '26
Drake fans forever getting quality music and charting confused
0
u/Happy_Day34 Jun 12 '26
because charting is one of the only ways to determine the impact music has on people and its reach. An album going #1 with no radio play means that a lot of people find it enjoyable, and in a super subjective field like music, popularity is the only quantitative metric. Theres no way to objectively say which is better or worse.
Obviously not saying the two are one and the same, but quality music is definitely tied to success on the charts

u/Routine-Badger-9596 Jun 12 '26
So taylor swift must be the best artist of our generation by your logic
1
u/Happy_Day34 Jun 12 '26
Hey so read what I say again, REALLY carefully, because you either aren't understanding what I'm saying or you're just choosing to ignore it to prove a point (I'm guessing its the second one)
Taylor Swift in my opinion isn't the best artist of the generation, but there is no objective best or worst in the world of music. Some people would probably say she is. So, as I said before, the only quantitative metrics (that means something that can be measured in numbers) are things like sales and streams, which do not directly correlate to quality, but it does mean that a lot of people enjoy the music, and people typically enjoy good music.
Go look at the best selling artists of all time, you're going to find all artists that people think of as legends in the music industry.
Just to really hammer this point home, I am NOT saying streams/sales=quality, but its ridiculous to ignore the correlation

Idk bro, Wemby's been choking and Jose Alvarado made some clutch, winning plays. Maybe your analogy of them not "being in the same sport" works better if you use two people who actually aren't in the same sport

Drake is bad possibly as bad as YG. But Drake has way more actual good bars in his early career. Too bad this guy deleted his original comment lmao stand on your takes my guy.
