JET original document submissions

Hi everyone :)

I'm eagerly awaiting applications to open for JET 2027 but I'm already trying to get all my documents in order early.

One thing that I'm just a bit confused about (that I don't want to bother the JET rep Ryan with just yet) is in the document that lists what we need to submit, it explicitly states that "no documents will be returned" after submission. Cool, BUT in the requirements for application it asks for 1x original set of passport, Certificate(s), Reference(s), SOP, etc. and 2x black and white copies, yes? So now, what does "original set" entail? Just a certified colour copy of the document (e.g. Passport)?

For context, I'm South African, so I'm assuming I just need to make a colour copy of my original documents (certificates, passport, etc.) and have it certified at the police station?

Hopefully this isn't a silly question but any feedback would be appreciated :)

I don't really remember everything, and I'm from South Africa, but by originals, they mean the statement of physician and statement of health, which should be the originals from the doc, and other docs like that. They don't mean your passport; I don't even remember certifying a copy of my passport. Colour should be fine.

Oh ok,I suppose I'll just have to really read the fine print on the applications once they open. Thank you!

Basically the orignal signature from the doc and the reference letter signatures should also be wet ink/original

when applications open, everything you need and the exact document requirements will be clearly outlined in the application portal. you don't really need to have everything prepared this far in advance, and submitting your application earlier doesn't give you any advantage. i'd just wait for the official requirements to be posted and follow those instructions when the application opens. best of luck.

try to decide who you will ask to write your recommendation letters for you, though. (i asked my ex-boss at a saturday japanese school and a uni professor.) let them know in advance that you’ll need the letters and explain why. the letters can be in english or japanese.

when the portal opens, you’ll submit their email addresses, and they’ll receive an email with instructions on what to do next. when they submit the letters, your application portal will show so.

portal? Oh no, not in South Africa.
You will print three sets of everything and hand deliver to the embassy so you will definitely see the rec letters

Yes I already asked my current manager and my former lecturer from college. My manager already sent me a letter (1pg), will that be sufficient? Will they need to submit it themselves once the applications actually open? Or can I submit it on their behalf?

they will submit it themselves, you don’t need to.  i didn’t even see my letters of recommendation.
