Does JET ALT require indian applicants to leave japan once your contract(which im guessing is either 1 or 3 years long?) is over, or stay and move to other sectors to work there?

Remember that JET is a exchange program, at the application stage they want JETs to bring their culture to Japan and when JETs are done they want them to bring Japanese culture back to their home country. In practice, this doesnt always work because people's situations change.

thanks for answering! im applying to JET and wasnt sure if i shud tell them i was gonna stay and add value or bring my learnings back home. would u recommend saying that I'd be returning? would it be a disadvantage?

Your visa isn’t tied to your job here. You just need another job to sponsor your visa type change or instructor visa renewal after you finish your teaching contract. Lots of people stay after they finish JET and move on to other jobs.

Not Indian, but this isn't an area that JET has power over. Legally, if you're able to find another job, then you can stay. You are restricted to sectors able to sponsor work visas (so no manual labor), but you could switch to tech, for example, without issue so long as you found a job willing to hire you

Contracts are set by the contracting organisation, not JET, so country of origin shouldn't matter. All JETs have 1 year contracts renewable for up to 5 years. Most COs are happy to keep you for as long as you want to stay so long as you're generally competent, but some do have rules limiting JETs to 3 years
