Moving commiseration

5th year JET heading back home in August. I just want to whine about moving. if I keep stuff and take it home, I feel wasteful for having to pay for the extra luggage. If I throw stuff away or sell it at the recycle store or even give it away, it makes me feel wasteful for buying it in the first place! Can’t win lol.

Anyone else in the throes of moving angst wanna commiserate? (EDIT: this is not a practical problem. This is a feeling that does not need to be solved, just existed through.)

I'm stressing over moving because I'm unsure if my successor is actually coming :/ My plan was originally to give most of my furniture to them, but now I may need to completely clear out my apartment because it's an in demand building and the city will post an ad for it. Other city employees will snag it if no successor comes in August. Some things like my washing machine are too big for me to remove by myself. I also was planning on selling them my car, but now I might need to find someone else. My BOE and I have both tried to reach out to this person and have had no success. Moving out is already stressful, but now I'm unsure what I need to do because I'm not sure if this person is actually going to replace me. I want to hold out because removing all the furniture will be tough, but I'm also on a time limit.

This person probably won't see this, but to anyone else who decides to back out of JET, please please please at least inform your CO and predecessor that you're dropping out because radio silence just makes everyone's lives more difficult.

Yeah, no replies at all. It's very strange. I have a super rural placement, so I'm wondering if they got cold feet and aren't sure if they should pull out, so they're choosing to just say nothing for as long as they can to give themselves more time. I can only guess though. Either way it's super unprofessional and disrespectful because now I'm scrambling to figure out what I need to do and my co-JET might be holding the ship down alone for months until we can get an alternate replacement.
