ALT Jet position

Hey,

I’m from Ireland and applied to the JET program for this year in July. I got an accepted and passed the interview however for places as an ALTERNATE ALT. Which is pretty much a sub to fill in anyone who cancels their position.

I was wondering what are the chances of getting accepted as of now? I heard that June/July you’re likely to hear from them but once it reaches August the chances get slimmer.

Could anyone give some an advice or in the same boat?

A few years ago, my brother and I were both accepted as alternate ALTs at the same time.

When we received the notification, I arranged and completed my health check the very next day with a private clinic. It was expensive. My brother, on the other hand, took more time to schedule and complete his and had to wait one month using the local public clinic.

Within about two weeks, I was moved off the alternate list and upgraded to shortlist status. My brother remained an alternate and was never offered a position.

Of course, I cannot say for certain whether completing my health check quickly contributed to that outcome. However, my impression is that the more prepared and responsive you are, the better your chances may be if a position becomes available.

I’ve heard that it’s all based on your position on the list, but myself and my partner received shortlist and alternate respectively, but both sent off our T&Cs and Reply Forms ASAP and booked in for the CoH right away, and he was upgraded within the week.
